She should have never accepted it in the first place.
Good. It’s nice to see she’s done the honourable thing
Best way to deflect any more public ire, I suppose.
fuck royal mail they keep delivering my parcels to WRONG addresses!
It’s taken a tv-drama documentary to do this while Private Eye has been reporting on this for over a decade now
Is this one of those times she says she will but won’t, and the news cycle will move on to something else and we’ll completely forget about all of this in 2 weeks like Michelle Mone?
I think that anyone who was complicit in making the decision to prosecute the postmasters should get criminal charges against them. I would be amazed if Vennells didn’t know about this
An incredibly empty gesture to try and turn down the public pressure.
I’m sure receiving a CBE is a very meaningful honour to many, but ultimately it is worthless. Absolutely no skin off her back to return it, and purely a selfish act to try and improve her image.
“I’m sorry for the devastation caused”…
How about..
“I’m sorry for being a lying piece of shit who fucked over so many people”
Some humans really have no shame.
I don’t understand why everyone is ignoring the most unique and quite frankly unbelievable aspect of this whole story; a naked mole rat not only managed to become the CEO of the post office, but also received a CBE for their efforts.
Hooray, she’s returned a piece of metal and now justice has been done.
as for the people whos livelihoods were destroyed, well I’m sure they will get their handwritten apology cards and £20 Amazon vouchers in the post soon.
Out of interest, does anyone know how Allan Leighton is somehow managing to stay squeaky clean in all of this news cycle?
Now they need to start looking at Adam Crozier.
But that will need a BBC documentary to bring to the public conscious.
Time to start a business to compete with rip-off Post Office to provide postal services via Royal Mail. The public should boycott the PO until the entire SLT (and that of Fujitsu) have been tried in court.
She needs prison time. 700+ people had their life ruined because of her denials that there was a problem with the software.
She should also hand back any financial gain from having a CBE, if there is any that is.
Probably some deal done here. She gives up her gong to ensure the establishment doesn’t have to create a mechanism by which people can have their honours removed and thus be used on other people. In return they will see that she doesn’t face any real consequences for all the suicides, wrongful imprisonments and tarnished reputations.
I’m sure this’ll make it up for the all the suicides caused by this shit-show.
Ms Vennells said she was “truly sorry for the devastation caused to the subpostmasters and their families, whose lives were torn apart by being wrongly accused and wrongly prosecuted as a result of the Horizon system”.
This is like an arsonist burning down a house and then sympathising with the victims of fire
It’s the right thing to do but this scandal has destroyed lives and ultimately justice will only be served if some of the top brass involved end up with heavy prison sentences.
Apparently she is an ordained priest and narrowly missed a bishopric of London.
That’s fine ‘n all, but it’s far more important that -if she’s found to be responsible- she’s charged.
Oh great news, that’ll make up for all the pain and misery!!!

will she be handing back the [bonuses](https://www.computerweekly.com/news/252498388/Ex-Post-Office-CEO-Paula-Vennells-walked-away-from-IT-scandal-with-over-400,000-in-pay-and-bonuses) as well or is it just the pointless baubles?
Yet another overpaid failure.
