That’s the best thing on her resume imo. Besides the fact that she probably didn’t have a big future in film anyhow. Delusional.
Seems like she already had that reputation of being hard to work with, and that in itself can be a career killer for women.
How do you explain Jason Lee then? That movie helped jump start his career.
She had a film career before Mall Rats?
She had a reputation for being a bitch didn’t she? Seems to me that would be the career killer
I mean she was starting on charmed after that. Sure that’s not film, but a steady paycheck and a way to stay in the public mind. At least until she got fired.
Yes but the inverse is, really haven’t heard anybody else claim that Kevin Smith ruining their film career. Claire Forlani, Jason Lee, Michael Rooker and an extra by the name of Stanley seemed to have careers post Mallrats.
EDIT: I already got downvoted? Is that you Shannen?
She was barely in mallrats . Sheeeeesh!🙄
Mallrats fucked her in an uncomfortable place.
They didn’t even want her in that movie it was supposed to be the chick from Degrassi in that role
Didn’t Shannen Doherty’s career die because she was famously difficult to work with?
Hartford? The Whale ?!?
Oh Shannon, honey…
I don’t think that was the reason.
To quote a great philosopher:
SHUT UP BRENDA!!
IIRC, Smith didn’t even write that part for her, but the studio insisted that he put a “star” in the movie
Yeah, no. The way I remember it was she kept making headlines as being a prima Donna and a jerk.
She is dying of cancer right now. Maybe calm down and forgive some old gossip all around.
I think her career died before she was in that. Hints why she was in a lower budget movie.
Uhhh. Jason Lee, Ben Afleck, Jeremy London, Michael Rooker…their careers didn’t tank. Shannon Doherty’s problem was herself. I’ve read that she’s really hard to work with.
Yeah that wasn’t because of Mallrats Brenda
It didn’t seem to hurt Jason Lee, Michael Rooker or Ben Affleck’s careers.
Hear me out. What if she was the reason Mallrats didn’t do so well?
When your biggest name (at that time) was someone notorious for being difficult to work with, and who was already largely disliked by the film’s target audience, it’s no surprise it flopped.
As for the other actors who went on to do bigger things, they didn’t have her baggage, so them getting more work wouldn’t be all that surprising either.
Mallrats did not deserve to fail at the box office. That movie is so quotable and so funny.
According to the commentary for the film, Doherty showed up to the mall repeatedly with a large Doberman on set that was shitting everywhere and had a bad temperament. The mall management had to intervene if I recall.
It’s an acclaimed director’s fault as opposed to her being notoriously difficult to work with? SMH.
“Shall I call you Logan, Weapon X?”
“No! Wolverine!”
Can’t think of a movie that had a bigger cultural influence over me and my 7th grade friends…
It wasn’t because of Mallrats.
Oh Shan, please take accountability for your treatment towards everyone else in your life. Your reputation was well known, and likely what damaged your career. Blessed be.
Why am I reading this? I’m not supposed to even be here right now!
Please. She wasn’t the lead, the film was indie, its box office results never a big deal. Her film career never took off because she never had the looks or talent for a film career. Most actors are destined only for TV. Her ego is only reason she wasn’t like David Boareanz where she just went from hit TV series to hit TV series.
Her career problems begin and end with her ego and her retrospective finger pointing just demonstrates that near death has not provided her any new insight.
Literally saw a clip of her and Kev yesterday talking about how cool this movie made them, and the clout they both got from it, her career wasn’t harmed by Mallrats failing at the box office.
Her career was harmed by her shitty personality and being difficult to work with.
Edit: should also point out that maybe doing a dick and fart joke stoner movie isn’t going to catapult a dramatic career.
