“It’s very easy for us to help the Ukrainians win this war. What we supply them amounts to about a nickel on the Defense Department dollar. You can help bring safe skies.” Timothy Snyder

  1. Snyder saying it like it is: truth to power for freedom.

    From OP article:

“In fighting the war, Ukraine is performing an extraordinary service to Americans. It is fulfilling the entire NATO mission, absorbing and halting a full-scale Russian attack.”

“It might be deterring a Chinese offensive in the Pacific by showing how difficult offensive operations can be.”

“We have no excuse for treating any of this as normal. What the Russians are doing in Ukraine is a test for the whole international legal order and for people who say they care about freedom.”

“What the Ukrainians are doing to protect legal order and freedom in general is extraordinary.”

“The goal of the current stage of Safe Skies is to raise funds to extend the drone detection system to another four Ukrainian regions, home to about 6 million people.”

  2. “Very easy”? I call bullshit. The Russians were foolishly given time to dig in, the Ukrainians bled equipment and personnel in an offensive that never had a prayer of success, and said Russians will be bolstering the already strong defensive lines over the winter. Ukraine will never break that line without massive numerical superiority, and a willingness to absorb heavy casualties. The only possible game-changer would be air supremacy, and that simply isn’t going to happen.

I’m telling you: this situation was intentionally allowed to develop. Leadership of the western nations wants Russia gradually bled, not thrown against the wall. At this point, nothing is going to be easy. Taking back the Donbas, if it happens, is going to come at the price of a brutal casualty count.
