  1. This coming from the head of a church responsible for countless violations of dignity of women and children, amongst others.

  2. I’m asking that an organization that has become notorious for aiding and abetting pedophiles and covering up their crimes be disqualified from making moralizing claims about any other people, especially when said people aren’t even associated with said organization.

  3. Man, this antiquated and hypocritical institution needs to be banned itself. I’m SO done with any form of religion.

  4. Thanks for reminding me why i fucking hate religion.

  5. All businesses that are religions need to be paying corporate taxes…

  6. I am an outspoken atheist, but I am actually uncomfortable with surrogacy. I would never call for a ban on it, of course.

  7. I thought the leader of the pedophile protection cult would be happy with anything that meant more kids being born…

  8. In my opinion, while it is nice that women who can’t birth children can nonetheless raise children, it does raise some uncomfortable questions about using women is straight up *breeders*. My impression is that the rights of the surrogate mother are severely limited, which is counter-intuitive to the “my body, my choice” mindset commonly expressed in the abortion discussion.

  9. I don’t approach the issue from a religious viewpoint but I agree with him.

It is disgraceful for rich westerners to go out and rent the bodies of poor women in 3rd world countries. We don’t allow desperate people to sell their kidneys why should wombs be different?

  10. Whether we like it or not, various factors will ensure there is always a demand for surrogacy, consequently it will always exist. The Pope is naive.

The best option is to strictly regulate the matter to ensure women and children are protected. Banning it just pushes it abroad where people can be exploited.

  11. The Catholic church is most popular in very poor nations. They want women to breed to keep families in poverty, while donating money to their church, and keeping them subservient through fear.

Poverty means low levels of education.

Having an ignorant population is how to retain power.

This is the goal of all religions.

  12. Imho listening to the leader of a criminal association that systematically killed and discriminated women for 2000 years is a grosser violation of women’s dignity. Maybe it’s just me

  13. Altruistic surrogacy done because a woman wants to help and is doing it out of the good of her own heart and not because she’s forced to economically: ✅

Paid surrogacy where you go to a poor country and pay a woman in a hard situation a fraction of what you’d give in your own country: ❌

  14. Actually based. There are also so many already existing kids who need a family

  15. Stop trying to tell people how to live their lives and focus on the abusers in your religion…

  16. It’s great the church think they can talk about the dignity of children 🤣🤣🤣 bit like fascists worrying about the rights of minorities

  17. Says the head of probably the largest and oldest child abuse cult in the history of humanity.

    You cannot make this up

  18. Where does he get his wits from asking for a general ban on anything? These people get their morals from an invisible god living in the sky purporting a book written millennia ago. I might as well become a science teacher because I read Harry Potter.

  19. Mary was a surrogate for the son of God, and without her own consent. If you believe the bible story, surrogacy is ordained by god. Our version is more respectful… it requires consent.

  20. Oof, that’s a toughie. On one hand I agree with him, but on the other you should let people do what they want with themselves.

But…. yeah there are definitely issues that could use some discussing.

  21. Come on now. Even the Pope can practice nuance.

There is good, affirming surrogacy situations and there is shitty, predatory surrogacy situations.

But just go ahead and broad brush it and see how that goes over.

  22. Wasn’t this clowns baby Jesus birthed through a surrogate? The leader of the cult that plays hide the pedo from justice needs to shut his filthy mouth

  23. Very ironic coming from the head of an organisation which systemically represses women and molests children.

  24. Breaking news: the pope cares about the dignity of women and children.

So I guess that he will give his approval for abortion in case of rape, incest or severe malformations?

  25. Head of an organization that harbors pedophiles talks about dignity of children…

  26. The minimum should be that the surrogate has all rights to the kid until willingly signed over, and the prospective parents having the responsibility of paying child support if they don’t get custody. And for all parts to go through psychological assessment to see if it’s being done willingly.

  27. Somehow over the last 10-15 years people seem to believe that becoming a parent is some kind of right. It’s not! Just because you want to become a parent to shiny new baby doesn’t mean you should be at any cost!

I think that there’s verse a thin line between surrogacy and baby trafficking. Babies should never be a product to purchase. In addition these babies should be afforded the right to know their genetic parents.

There’s a lot of people in rich countries happily living in ignorance on the realities of the exploitation of women in surrogacy. Some are no better than puppy farms- but no worries a baby st any cost eh?

  28. What a great way for Vatican to muddy the pool with their religious viewpoints, which are not shared by a majority of Europe.

It’s a labor rights issue. Banning surrogacy will just push it to a legal gray zone with no regulatory oversight, basically ensuring that there’s no mechanism against potential exploitation. Any kind of business would turn out ugly in such conditions.

On top of that, a surrogate’s work can be viewed as one of the most meaningful jobs with positive impact on human lives.

Let’s allow it to be done in a way that’s safe and legal.

  29. the vatican should implement actual penalties for molestation and straight up rape instead of talking about the dignity of unborn children.

  30. He should call for a general ban on priests abusing children. I call this practice a gross violation of the dignity of women and children.

  31. I wonder if someday we will stop listening to people with exactly zero relevant life experience. Hey grandpa, put down the microphone and go back to your cream of wheat.

  32. I don’t necessarily see it as exploitation but it feeds into the whole my child should have my genetics idea which I find troubling. I would like to see a much bigger focus on adoption instead of

  33. I never thought i would agree with the Pope, but here i am.

  34. Wasn’t Jesus kind of the result of a surrogate pregnancy? Or would he more like be artificial insemination?
