Finns and those or you who also reisde there, can you tell.me what is the point of the Finnish Authenticator Identification app if nobody supports it?
this is the tool: https://www.suomi.fi/instructions-and-support/identification/how-to-identify-yourself-in-an-e-service/finnish-authenticator-identification-service
Identification using the application is intended for foreign citizens who do not have a Finnish means of identification. Remember to check the instructions of the e-service you want to use to see whether it is possible to identify yourself with the Finnish Authenticator application.
I might be venting a bit here but as someone who thought I was moving to a technically advanced society (dreams of Nokia, linus etc) the experience I have had in the past months just trying to get access to Finnish digital services has left me, well, a little salty.
My background: a digital nomad, granted Finnish residency on account of being an EU citizen with sufficient income to support myself on 1st of December.
Since I moved here I have been staying in airbnb as there seems to be a waiting list for some housing associations and long term I think I want to see the country and potentially hop from one city to another during the winter and will stay in various airbnb properties. Then when it gets warmer I plan to live in my RV and be in nature and travel.
So here comes the rub
No bank will give me a bank account as i dont have a “permanent address” and I registered as “poste restante” on the advice of the guy who processed my application in DVV and since i can’t put someone else’s airbnb for something like a bank account nobody will let me do anything, i cant even sign up for a phone contract it seems and stuck on prepaid :/
now I just registered this app that I was told would solve my problem and verified my passport and everything successfully and that is supposed to let me authenticate for e-services but neither tax authority, Kela or DMV support it for logging in, only “bank codes”
Like seriously, how is someone supposed to exist in finland if you dont want to pay for a bank account, I have a perfectly fine banking services from my home country so why should i even need to open and pay for a bank acocunt here to access my tax records, (it also seems to me somewhat of a risk trusting private banking services for such something at should be quite secure (access to government e services)
So without being too salty, has anyone been in this situation? Do i need to get a mortgage and sign a lease for a year to be considered a “real permanent citizen” or somehow the idea people can move town each month is a foreign concept to Finns?
The foreign citizen identification service, or the Finnish Authenticator Identification Service allows foreigners to use Finnish public administration e-services that have introduced the identification using the Finnish Authenticator application.

one of the issues of finland is extreme conformity up to the point of servility. you wont get anywhere if you differ from the “normal”.
I am not an expert but from the tax and services perspective, changing home municipalities every month sounds like a proper nightmare. With the self employment you’ll have to have a local bank account and permanent address anyhow so I’m not quite sure where is the problem
I can log into tax and kela with that app. There’s an option on [vero.fi](https://vero.fi) to choose the authenticator app.
But yeah for a lot of smaller things they only support bank login. GG 🙁
Also Traficom looks like to have an option to identify using “ulkomaalaisen tunnistustavat / Finnish Authenticator app” so I can’t see what is the problem here?
Let me turn the question around. Why would Finland want to support such a group of people specifically? It seems like a bad idea with very little positive return on investment. They should focus on other things like a national digital ID for citizens that isn’t tied to banks. Honestly couldn’t give a shit about digital nomads
Why would Finland waste money to develop this kind of thing if there’s two people using it? Seems like a very bad use of tax payer money. We have enough bloat already. I’d rather want them to make the immigration process faster to serve people better.
