  1. Lol, what a load of old tosh

“Parents may even be prosecuted pre-emptively, before any refusal about their child changing gender takes place.”

That proposal won’t go far, absolutely laughable.

  2. To be clear, I don’t know of any trans rights organisations that advocate for letting children transition. The whole point of puberty blockers is so that kids DON’T have to transition.

So I honestly have no idea what the SNP is even *trying* to do here. Are they trying to appeal to some radical superminority, or are they really so out of touch with the people they’re trying to represent that they’re making these political gestures that they don’t even want & actively feeds into a narrative that hurts them?

This is the express, so chances are that the info needs to be taken with a winter ringroad’s worth of salt. But between the two of them, I don’t know who’s more untrustworthy. Even if it’s all true, though, there’s no way this proposal is making it out of the first reading.

  3. Who does this appeal to? Surely this will only isolate the SNP even more?

  4. Thus confirming that the SNP are lunatics.

Of course, this will be used by other parties as “You want independance? you can have it but your kids will be swapping sexes”.

    >“We have grave concerns that these plans will criminalise loving parents, who could face years in jail simply for refusing to sign up to the gender ideology cult.

This seems to be the reality of it all, support us politically in public or we throw you into jail.

  5. Maybe they are bored and just want to hand over seats back to Labour in the GE by being bat shit crazy

  6. Don’t put all this transgender ideology into young children’s minds and they wouldn’t even know it exists. Something awfully sinister going on here.

  7. Imo it should be 7 years in prison for parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids and their kids get sick as a result

  8. 1: The Express is a terrible tabloid and readership aimed at Bigots.

2: This has nothing to do with England.

  9. Sounds like the Express talking shit to me. Sounds like it’s a measure directed at banning “therapy” that tries to persuade people to stop being gay that the Express is misrepresenting for their own purposes.

From a more reliable source explaining it’s about conversion therapy, “[Conversion therapy refers to practices “aiming to change or supress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity”. so]”(https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-67922317). So not about preventing anyone transitioning – not that kids are transitioning medically anyway – but about harmful conversation therapy.

  10. This reads like the Express half read something and then tried to think of the most extreme example of how the bits they understood could be used.

  11. As a scot I can’t wait to see the snp get hammered at the general election, bye Ahmed 👋

  12. It’s the Telegraph FFS. I’ve looked online and cannot find another source for this story. So it’s probably bullshit. Even if true, a gender change would only be social transition and not a medical one. You guys really need to search the sources for stuff. There’s enough transphobia in this country without listening to this shit from the Torygraph.

  13. Oh you can see the right wing bias at the express oozing out of this one. Firstly, they’re proposing banning conversion therapy targeted at transgender children, which is a barbaric practice the tories nearly banned until shitwank terfs piles on a consulation on the conversion therapy ban bill, leading to tory ministers deciding to only ban gay conversion therapy but permit trans conversion therapy.

Secondly, if we translate the article’s talk of the pre-emptive social orders separating “loving parents who just don’t subscribe to the gender ideology cult” from their children into plain, non-euphemistic English, these orders are designed to protect vulnerable trans children from parents who “love” their child so much they refuse to accept them for who they are and want to repress their kids’ gender identity so hard the kid gives up and decides to live a lie until they can move out, then cut all ties with the parents and potentially have to fork out more money than they otherwise would’ve to pay for the pricey surgeries needed to undo the effects of a puberty their parents made them go through against their will while knowing it would hurt them. Parents who treat their kids in this way, stomping all over their sense of self and their wellbeing both present and future do not love their children, they love an idealised child who only exists in their mind, and want to force their real kid to be them. I’ve seen the lengths so-called “gender criticals” may go to to get their kids to “desist”, another popular euphemism for something so tragic; blocking access to social media, isolation from friendship groups, forced haircuts, and other practices that do in fact constitute child abuse. So yes, kids in those situations should be protected by the state from such awful parents, and I fully commend the Scottish government’s proposed bill, and wish we had one like it down here in the place this subreddit is about.
