Krugman points out it doesn’t matter how good the Biden economy is – if you’re a Republican. Polling data that suggests it’s about partisan differences. Republicans simply choose to believe that there is no good economic news when there is a Democrat in the White House.

  1. There are still people who believe that Hitler has been unfairly maligned and the Holocaust is nothing but Jewish propaganda. Republicans are going down that same path.

  2. It’s unfortunate when people are so set in their ways that they can no longer listen to people better educated on a topic that have new or different facts about said topic. But also it’s pretty tough for a lot of people to survive with the cost of housing rn.

  3. Kinda funny to me, “complaining about inequality, or how about corruption involved with fiscal, monetary policy, lobbyism and regulation? You must be a Republican.”

    What’ll they think of next.

  4. Basic houses cost twice what they did in 2017, so the economy is “great”.

  5. It’s been like this for a very long time. The moment a republican wins the presidency there is an immediate shift in all economic polling among conservatives. I’m talking about they don’t even have the common sense and self awareness to at least wait a few months before singing praise about the economy. It’s one day to the next where they start saying the economy is doing great.

There is also the damming survey done where when asked about their own personal economic situation 70% of Republicans say they are doing good and then 15% say the overall economy is doing good. That makes absolutely no sense and shows that they don’t give a shit about telling the truth about the country but of course they will never put their own situation in the gutter.

You also have how the very metrics they used to brag about (low unemployment, stock market highs, GDP growth) are now worthless or manipulated. But when Trump was president it was a never ending charade about these data points. American republicans are partisan hacks who do not give a shit about telling the truth no matter what.

  6. No offense to mafco, but does anyone know how I can block posts from just this user, but still follow the sub?

  7. Maybe people with decent careers are struggling just as much as before he took office; despite the propaganda claiming that the economy is incredible.

  8. The same is also true for Democrats under Republican leadership.

  9. Krugman is probably more a political actor at this point than he is an actual economist – he really missed hard on the 2008 housing crisis (and probably a lot of other things). He generally is a cheerleader for the status quo, but he’s rich.. what do you expect… I’m saying this as someone who probably agrees with a lot of his politics, but he’s not a good oracle when it comes to financial conditions…

  10. There are people that like having to work 2 jobs to have the same lifestyle as 2 years prior

  11. How is this news?

    Its just common knowledge

Been this way since he 80s

  12. I remember when the economy crashed in 2008 and lots of people were losing their job, yet Sean Hannity was still acting like economy was doing great under President Bush. President Obama gets into power and all of sudden economy was doing terrible, which it was….but funny how they change their tune so easily.

  13. Trump immediately started taking credit for Obama’s economy, after calling it garbage before he was elected and any good reports about it “fake news”.

    >“In the past, the president has referred to particular job reports as phony or totally fiction,” a reporter asked. “Does the president believe that this jobs report was accurate and a fair way to measure the economy?”

    >“I talked to the president prior to this, and he said to quote him very clearly,” Spicer said. “They may have been phony in the past, but it’s very real now.”

As soon as trump was elected Republicans upgraded their assessment of the economy’s *past* performance, not just future performance.

    >When GOP voters in Wisconsin were asked last October whether the economy had gotten better or worse “over the past year,” they said “worse’’ — by a margin of 28 points.

    >But when they were asked the very same question last month, they said “better” — by a margin of 54 points.

    >That’s a net swing of 82 percentage points between late October 2016 and mid-March 2017.

    >What changed so radically in those four and a half months?

    >The economy didn’t. But the political landscape did.

Conservatives are conditioned to trash the economy when a Dem is president, no matter what the facts say or how they are doing personally.

  14. You can’t reason with irrational people. The only persuasive tactic to use against irrational people is fear mongering

  15. If you’re a republican or if you have a family and you rent, either way.
