“Poland’s exports to Kyrgyzstan are up 1900% since before Russia invaded Ukraine…” – it’s not just the Germans
Poland's exports to Kyrgyzstan are up 1900% since before Russia invaded Ukraine. There's no way that these goods are meant for domestic consumption in Kyrgyzstan. They're obviously heading for Russia where they help keep Putin's war economy running. The EU turns a blind eye… pic.twitter.com/oUGrQk7jUz

Can we stop the stupid fingerpointing about exports to Kyrgyzstan now please? They have been a drop in the ocean before the war and now they are 19 drops in the ocean for Poland and about [14 drops](https://daryo.uz/en/2023/09/21/german-exports-to-kazakhstan-face-1400-surge-in-auto-sector) for Germany. None of this is anywhere near the pre-war trade with Russia, in other words: the sanctions *do* work.
An in-depth analysis is essential to understand what this means, and what is really going on. I can think of a variety of reasons why this could be the case – some positive and some negative, so without a good amount of fleshing out, this data is pretty useless.
I suspect that here in Georgia, Polish exports have also risen. And some of that I am very grateful for because it means I don’t have to buy russian produced products in the supermarket. It’s horrible that russia holds such an economic grip on this country. At the same time, I strongly suspect that there is a black market route of goods heading into russia, and I would be highly surprised if grifters and russians weren’t taking advantage of an opportunity to make money.
The old Soviet black market back in action. All those Russian expats too scared to die in Ukraine, but happy enough to become a war profiteer in Kyrgyzstan.
The initial reporting by Mr. Brooks back then *very clearly* said its **not** just Germany, but for example also Hungary, Poland and Chzechia. The UK aswell I think.
Then Visegrad24 came and of course only pushed the version of the graph that included Germany, just as if they’re a propaganda outlet supported by the former polish government (Hint: they are), which stuck, because it just fit some peoples narratives *so perfectly*.
To be fair as someone who lives in Kyrgyzstan as well as the US the Kyrgyz are trying to remove China and Russia from their lives.
