James VI might have inherited the English throne but it didn’t take him long to try and emulate and encourage all things English, including their language, and only went to Scotland once after becoming monarch. It was an Anglo centric monarchy from that point.
There were riots when Scottish landowners voted to join the union to cover their debts. It wasn’t popular in Scotland.
