Hi guys,

Sorry if that’s a bad place, I received an email in Russian from someone (first name . last name @ [politsei.ee](https://politsei.ee)) asking me to come somewhere or I’ll get a fine. Is [politsei.ee](https://politsei.ee) a legit Estonian police? I suspect it might be a scam, although they have a web site and I can even find the person who emailed me.

Email also has an attached Word document with something like this:

Politsei- ja Piirivalveamet

PÕHJA PREFEKTUUR

KUTSE

kriminaalasjas nr #############

Politsei- ja Piirivalveameti Põhja prefektuuri Lääne-Harju politseijaoskonna menetlustalituse

menetlusteenistuse eriasjade uurija Svetlana Jurkevitš, juhindudes KrMS §-dest 163, 164 ja 165,

kutsub

14.01.2022 kell 08.00 Põhja prefektuuri Lääne-Harju politseijaoskonda aadressile

Rahumäe tee 6/1, Tallinn

Please advice if that’s legit. They might be looking for a person with the same first/last name as me.

EDIT: I’m not an Estonian resident, I’ve never been to Estonia either.

EDIT2: I contacted her on email and it seems like she got a wrong email address, they are looking for someone with last name containing “õ”, while my last name contains “y”.

EDIT3: to check if they were looking for me they asked for my date of birth. I shared only my year of birth and asked for their phone number if they are looking for someone with my date of birth. They responded that they were looking for someone more than 5 years younger, so case closed. Thanks everyone for help!

  1. Looks legit, just call +372 612 3000, it’s general customer support or maybe they can even connect you with the detective in charge and sort it out (through I guess they still want to see you, saying “that’s not me” over a phone doesn’t usually fly with police).

  2. You’re being asked to show up to an interview as a suspect of a crime.

Of course, you can always call the person that sent you the e-mail and ask what’s up, her phone seems to be available on the website.

  3. The person ” Svetlana Jurkevitš” is a legit person and [Politsei.ee](https://Politsei.ee) is a legit official website. You can find him even on the [politsei.ee](https://politsei.ee) website

Too me it a looks like a legit email.

  4. It is the legit police homepage. I suggest you call them, they probably can’t give you many details over the phone, but if it is a mix up then I hope you can clear it that way.

  5. Honestly, if this is real, you fucked up OP, you could have trolled her so hard.

    Anyhow, I have some questions.

If you have never been to Estonia then how do they got your email? Did they just put firstname.lastname<common email service here> and just tried their luck?

If so then what kind of fucking detective does that?

Why would a police detective ask you date of birth without any verification and just “drop the case” when told some random numbers that anyone could pull out of their ass?

This entire thing makes no sense and OP is either full of shit or Svetlana is the most incompetent detective (or lets just say social engineer pretending to be detective) I’ve ever seen. Anyways, good luck to you OP, but I don’t believe this is real. I refuse to believe it.

  6. Most likely an accident, but it can be negligence. If accompanied letter contained another person personally identifiable information if might be also GDPR breach.

If you want to make Estonian government better then perhaps you should notify our Data Protection Inspectorate info@aki.ee and police “internal control” ppa@politsei.ee. It can be also done anonymously.
