I no showed for my first test. Basically my parents pushed me into getting a provisional straight out of school, which I didn’t use for years. When I did final get around to learning I couldn’t renew my provisional without proof of a test. So I booked a test, got a new provisional and finally booked some lessons. Then I tried to cancel the test, but they would only let me push it out a month. Useless for me since I had no idea when I would actually be ready to take the test. So instead of having to call up again and again, constantly rescheduling until I was ready, I just didn’t show.
>Current regulations allow drivers to renew learner permits by making an appointment for a test
Seems like a pretty easy way to reduce waiting times for learners permit test, just dint require another permit test booking, they already dont have to take the test
That’s a lot of no shows. It’s also a lot of provisional drivers who’ve been booking tests just to renew their provisional.
>Based on the lowest €85 non-refundable fee, 2023 no-shows amounted to more than €547,000 in fees. An RSA spokesman said where a learner did not show up, the tester was “still scheduled to work during that time and is still entitled to remuneration, so the RSA does not make any money [profit] from the booking fee”.

>The RSA pointed out that last year’s no-show rate, which includes all vehicle types, would not be considered high at 3 per cent and compares with 24,456 in 2019, or 11 per cent, following changes to the booking system.
How about they start opening up more test spots by hiring more staff with that money? There’s a 7 month wait for testing in Mullingar. Yes, 7 months.
I spent a ridiculous amount of time staring at thread title, wondering what the post was doing in this sub & thinking that it probably wasn’t about Irish people who coulcn’t afford to fly to South Africa for their driving tests.
Circa 6000 tests? That’s ridiculous.
Need to do something to sort this. That amount of spots would clear the backlog probably. Shit system.
So 6k people didn’t bothering showing for tests while I’ve been sat on the waiting list for a year 😭
I have only been a no show once, I went out to car and the windscreen wiper was broken and it was lashing rain. I turned on my heals said FUCK THIS and didn’t show. You can reschedule your test 3x before your fee is forfeited.
