  1. Steve Blum, who has acted in roles in Mortal Kombat 1, Diablo IV, Star Wars Jedi, and The Last of Us Part II, among many other games, said:

“Excuse me? With all due respect, you state in the article, “Approved by affected members of the union’s voiceover performer community.” Nobody in our community approved this that I know of. Games are the bulk of my livelihood and have been for years. Who are you referring to?”

Buckle up guys, time for another strike. Ouch, right in my anime

  2. If you’re talking about linear content that plays out like a cutscene then you should absolutely hire voice actors to record the content. If we’re talking about real-time interactive audio then it’s just not possible.

For instance: if you want to include a customizable player name in dialog then you can’t just get an actor to record every possible name that a user might have.

I don’t see the difference between putting an actor’s visual likeness on a 3D model and putting their audible likeness on an AI model. As long as they have a fair license agreement and get paid then it’s all good.

  3. Feels like a natural outcome of the Citizens United ruling. If corporations are people then AI’s generated/managed by corporations are, in part, the voice of that corporation. Total bullshit really.
