Poll: Majority of Russians see war in Ukraine as ‘civilizational struggle with West’

  1. It is amazing what one very old, little, nasty, uneducated (but murderous excuse for a real man) can achieve in a failing country full of brainless puppets, no?

  2. Basically, Russians support the war, will vote for Putin again, will not protest and continue to buy essentially all the lies told on government media (they may make a small “I am very smart” style disclaimer that “not all the details told by the government may be correct” but they still buy and parrot all of the stances at their core).

  3. More Than Half Of Young Russians Would Like To Emigrate, a different survey finds.

So uhm… I guess those folks aren’t part of this survey.

Or just maybe this is a bit of scaremongering…

  4. Rally to the flag effect. It’s always fascinating how easily people can fall for they lie of nations.

  5. Polling in Russia assumes anonymity. There is no thing like anonymity in Russia. So polling will yield very little in terms of an accurate picture of what people are actually thinking. Not after all the arrests and murders of oppositional people. No way anybody is telling any pollster what s/he is really thinking unless extremely naive.

  6. You know i heard about an Austrian man with a mustache back in the 40s who said the exact same thing but regarding Jews and bolsheviks.

  7. And yet not a single Western NATO soldier in on the ground, in the combat frontline in Ukraine.

In 9 years, the Soviet Union lost **90,000** troops in [Afghanistan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet%E2%80%93Afghan_War) and were still defeated.

In less than 2 years in Ukraine, the Russians have lost **366,000 troops!**

They started the war as the second best military in the world. Now they’re only the second best military in Ukraine.

They’ve lost 6000 tanks, 11,000 APCs, 330 Jet aircraft, 325 military helicopters. (Admittedly, the Russians shot down many of their own planes and choppers through sheer incompetence)

Russia has lost 24 warships, boats and a submarine to a country that doesn’t even have a Navy!

If this is a civilisational struggle for Russia, they should be quaking in their boots if the West actually do get involved.

  8. Well, that’s true, isn’t it?

This is Russia’s last chance to show that they are equally powerful, equally attractive and equally *relevant* as “Western civilization”. Their last chance to prove that the “Russian sphere of influence” is not dead but thriving.

Because Ukrainians clearly felt that Western civilization was more attractive than Russian civilization. And Russia is now trying to prove them wrong – that aligning with the West is a bad idea.

By now, the only other nation who still believes that is Belarus, and Belarus isn’t much to be proud of. Even young Russians themselves are emigrating in unprecedented numbers. So Ukraine is Russia’s last chance to prove that they are an important, powerful, relevant civilization on equal footing with the West (or China, for that matter).

I utterly disagree with Russians that Russia *needs* to prove that. Spheres of influence are bullshit. Fighting a war over power and influence and reputation is horrible. Ukraine is a sovereign nation and can decide on its own foreign policies. The war is wrong, Russians are wrong for supporting it, etc.

But whether I like it or not, it is *true* that Russia is fighting against Western civilization.

The West is barely fighting back (sadly), but that’s a different matter.

  9. yeah…. the annoying struggle of Ukraine to not be a part of Russia again. How dares the west to have their own will.

  10. Poll: Majority of Russians still can’t think for themselves

  11. Russia almost had a good thing going. The West was happily buying their natural resources, western industry was happily selling them things they couldn’t make themselves, western politicians were happily taking their bribes, nobody wanted to fuck with them between nukes and gas dependence.

We practically looked the other way as they actively undermined our democracies, hacked our businesses, started conflicts with neighbors and essentially behaved however the fuck they wanted.

But no, that wasn’t enough. Putin had his shitty delusions to realize. Every level of governance and business is permeated by systemic, intentional corruption to keep his mafia state going.

The only real enemy Russia has is itself.

  12. People in Europe especially would be very well served by simply listening to what the Russians are telling us over and again. They have not abandoned their imperial past and we should pull ourselves out of the ficticious dream that Russia attacking Ukraine isn’t related to their wider ambitions.

We must either defeat them in Ukraine or we will fight them in the Baltics.

  13. Lmao no one cared about Russia until they invaded Ukraine.

  14. Yes, it is because Putin himself has publicly said, that the war is with “The West”.

That’s what makes it so astounding that “The West” does not really do much to fight back.

Where is the support of the US? Where are the Taurus missiles, Olaf?

  15. Why dont you let us murder other countries and take their land!?! #civilization Historically and sadly a tale as old as the species but still, a silly view.

  16. Isn’t openly saying you do not support the “operation” guaranteed jail time?

  17. Fun fact: Most Western media maintains the narrative that it is the elite who are evil and imperialist and the public is innocent.
It’s exactly the other way around, the Kremlin elite are Western Europeans who pretend to be Russians, and the public wants the empire (as long as they don’t have to bleed their guts out on the Ukrainian steppes)

  18. Russia shall not rest until the West too has embraced its civilizational achievements like open kleptocracy, rampant alcoholism, and complete political apathy.

Truly it is as Putin said, the civic development of the Russian citizenry is second to none in the world.

  19. Finally, after two years of war, the west slowly came to realize that Russian people, in fact, support the war. Not all of course, Russia is a 140mln nation, and even if 20% are against it, that’s close to 30mln of people, which is not a small number by all means. However, just like Hitler was just doing people’s will, Putin is doing the same for Russia.

To think about it, I still remember when it all started and overwhelming majority on reddit were calling it Putin’s war and russians don’t have a say in it. Well here we have it. It is important now to make correct conclusions from it.

  20. Russians are also victims of this dictatorship themselves but that does not mean they are not responsible. It is the same as it was with Nazi Germany – Germans were having beach holidays with strange smell coming from concentration camp ovens…they all knew but ignored it since they had state paid holidays – dictatorships make it convenient to ignore. Never sell yourself to the state, you are a slave more or less.

Why Russian, Belarus athletes are allowed to the Olympics, I have no answer. They are part of the ignorants.

Ignorant badly educated people are basically animals, they know no better. We have to do better – we really do or we will blow ourselves up eventually.

  21. And it’s not in russia. A lot of them living in Europe countries and still supporting war. In Baltics plenty of older russians on purpose don’t speak national language with natives and crying about their rights lol

Also plenty of young russians supporting war so it’s not just old people. Europeans must understand that without invading russia this not going to end. It must be done like with nazi germany when various armies were stationed there.

  22. Thats what about 100 years of brain washing and extermination of intelligence does. Russian mindset is still in the first half of the last century, when this was kinda normal

  23. I didn’t need to feel any struggle with the Russians as long as they stayed within their borders.

Personal rghts, freedom of the press, civil liberties, freedom to choose, they are all pinnacles of our advancement as a people. After thousand years of killing, unbelievable struggle to survive, to clothe and feed people, we came up with criticism of those things and decided that it’s not necessary for things to be like that.

Russians deserve to live normally, properly, with clothes and food, with warm homes and functioning toilets.

If wishing those things upon them is a threat, then let it be so. Their struggle is not with us but with themselves. It’s a struggle to keep things going as badly as they are.

  24. Russians see everything as a war against the west. Everything. When I talk to my Russian parents about literally amy topic and comment upon their beliefs as being straight up propaganda narrative the first thing they say is that such a claim can only come from American propaganda.

These people are beyond repair, a literal zombie cult because it should be dead by now because of how toxic it is but it just keeps going for some reason.

  25. And this is exactly why we need to KEEP SUPPORTING UKRAINE 🇺🇦

We are dealing with an entire nation in Russia of deluded and brainwashed fascists. If they are not stopped in Ukraine they will drag everyone into a war that never should have happened in the first place.

GIVE UKRAINE WHAT IT NEEDS TO STOP RUSSIA.

  26. A nation of servants. You could be part of the European family but prefer living in an autocracy.

  27. AAAAAAA NO! !!!DONT TRUST RUSSIAN POLLS!!!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡😡😭😭😱

  28. Imperialism (and chauvinism following it) are the plagues of society. Too bad it takes decades or even centuries to “heal”. Or an enormous bloodshed in the place where this imperialism originated.

  29. Well. Im russian. What can i say? I was against putin pre 2022 invasion. But after the west sanctioned me. Im not really keen on supporting anything you may say. Id prefer my bad guys cause they are my bad guys.

  30. Funny, so we do in the west. But we have our own ideas about who is civilised and who is not.

  31. for someone pretending to hate the west they sure love our products

  32. If you read _poll_ and _Russia_ in one sentence, you can skip the rest.

  33. They’re brainwashed. If Putin told every Russian to jump with their left feet they’d do it.

  34. This polls are so pointless because they don’t say how many people **don‘t or refuse** to answer the poll.

  35. The west, meanwhile, sees it as a nuisance.

I am reminded of the Tau war against the Imperium in 40K. The Tau prepared for decades, they carefully laid the groundwork, infiltrators, fleets at the ready. The day they made their move was the most important day of their history that would decide their future for centuries to come.

To the Imperium, it was a Tuesday.

  36. They’re not wrong. The longer we don’t recognize that fact the worse of we will be.

  37. Many far-right politicians in Europe share the same ideology as Putin. That’s one of the main differences between Russia’s and Western civilization; over here those people have a voice, even though it’s despicable and anti-West. Anti-Putin speech is not possible in Russia, unless you want to die of starvation and/or the cold in some isolated outdoor prison in Siberia. Or accidentally fall out of a window. In this sense, Putin has a huge advantage over the West, because he has far-right allies within the West that are actively spreading his message. Whatever the outcome of the war in Ukraine may be, and I still hope Russia will lose in the end, Putin already won the battle of this so-called ‘civilization struggle’; [pro-Putin parties](https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-putin-propagandists-cheer-geert-wilders-dutch-election-win/) are winning all over Europe.

  38. I would not believe any kind of stats coming from authoritarian state.

  39. Made up poll. Everything’s made up in Russia. Even their army.

  40. Yet many reports state that Russians dream of living in America…

  41. Whats the point of these polls if saying no is basically illegal.

  42. Russians as a people have just never really been inclined towards democracy, have they?

From half a millennium of Tsarism to almost a century of Sovietism. A fleeting taste of modern governance in the 90s, and then straight back into another dictatorship.

It must be a physiological thing because they literally cannot help themselves. If Russians not ruled by some kind of despot then they are completely lost.

Whole country needs to be run as a UN mandate for at least a generation, until we can cure them of this ailment.
