  1. Threatening that something might have “unintended consequences” is a great catch all boogey man.

    It pretty much guarantees that you can point a finger and say “See… See… I told you so” at some stage.

So everybody said something might happen but weren’t able to really articulate what that was so they just said “not sure about that chief, what about fairness or something” and that’s being reported as genuine advice, Ireland in a nutshell. I remember similar “unintended consequences” were talked about around raising the borrowing limit for first time buyers and literally everything was fine.

  3. Given how many in the government are landlords why are we surprised.

  4. Why the hell would they need tax breaks when rents are at all time highs? If anyone needs tax breaks it is renters FFS…

    This is just transferring more wealth to the already wealthy. Seems like a bad joke.
