  1. [Source:](https://edgar.jrc.ec.europa.eu/report_2023)

    > *”The Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) is a joint project of the European Commission Joint Research Centre and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency which estimates emissions of all greenhouse gases, air pollutants and aerosols”*

    > *”In 2022, Global GHG emissions primarily consisted of CO2, resulting from the combustion of fossil fuels (71.6%). CH4 contributed 21% to the total, while the remaining share of emissions comprised N2O (4.8%) and F-gases (2.6%).”*

  2. One of my friends spent some time in Albania years ago, and described the situation such as *”you are rich if you have a donkey”*. I guess, the same in Germany is when you have a giant Audi for weekends and a relatively new Dacia for weekdays, stored them in a big house with swimming pool. This map kind of confirms it, but countries like French are doing well.

My point is: not so much relevant information can be read from this.

  3. How come Norway does so bad? I thought it’s an ecologic paradise: grid is on hydropower, they drive EVs, houses are very well insulated.

  4. Iceland you dirty bastards. I thought you had geothermal to heat your homes?

  5. Does this including heating and everything? Or just for energy production

  6. I like how the USA is shown so small that it’s easily missed.

  7. Just checked Canada’s numbers for 2022. Seems like we’re the worst of the G7 and far worse than any on this map. Woo go 🇨🇦

  8. Is there any information on whats the reason for those numbers? Why is Germany doing so much worse than France for example? Is it because of coal plants/ nuclear plants? And wtf is up with Luxembourg? Is it all the private jets? 😀

  9. 2023 is going to suck for Sweden I heard, the exploded pipeline was on Swedish waters and counts as co2 emissions (co2eq, I suppose).

  10. Always think per capita is a bad way to measure emissions, human pollute the most play so countries with more people pollute more. EU wants to cull herds of cows because they say there is too many…

  11. Luxembourg are the worst in Europe, clearly they’re causing global warming. More reason to get rid of microstates!

  12. Huh, I’m surprised Australia is so close to the US.

  13. I did some digging and it seems this is production based CO2 emissions, so if a frenchman buys an iPhone made in China the emissions are counted against China, which is sub-optimal if you ask me.

  14. The interesting comparison here is India vs China. They were at a similar level 25 years ago before Chinas building boom started and we are in big trubbel if Indias 1,4 billion people were to output the same emissions as China. Then there’s Africa which consist of another 1,2 billion people who are currently emitting only around 1 ton CO2 per capita…

  15. The US is killing it. And by that, I mean the globe.

  16. What’s with Austria?
Not too high, but I expected low, hydropower and whatnot

  17. Can someone give me the Germany flair? I want people to know where I‘m from. So they know that I destroy our environment.

  18. I couldnt care less. Man made global warming is not as bug as you’d think imo

  19. I would like to see a graph of co2 emmissions by year. From what I remember, a few years ago europe’s average was around 10 and the usa’s 20.

  20. Instructive to see France’s industrial death in hard numbers.

  21. Ignore china please my enlightened Reddit intellectuals

  22. What are those Luxemburgers doing? They’ve the highest levels. Well done (literally).

  23. I’m really surprised with Iceland, I thought their energy supply was practically all geothermal. I know that there are other factors in play, but still surprised

  24. It’s interesting. But… Ukraine, as you think is don’t Europe?

  25. What about Austria ? I though they lived naked in the forest

  26. I think when it comes to Ireland, Ryanair’s flights all over Europe are counted as CO2 coming from Ireland.
    >There is, it must be said, debate about this calculation. **Eurostat counts emissions from domestic European flights as accruing to an airline’s home country tally but does not count the emissions on flights leaving the EU.** So, in other words, a Ryanair flight from Warsaw to Milan will count towards Ireland’s tally but a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to New York is not. That means Ryanair’s big European operation contributes more to the statistics even if the much bigger jets flown by Europe’s longhaul giants are contributing more – in carbon terms – to the skies.

  27. I looked the Wikipedia article someone else linked with the data over the past half century. To be honest I am incredibly surprised that Britain has had one of the biggest reductions (for such a large country) in CO2 emissions over the past 50 years. The world’s first industrialised nation to one steadily transferring to clean energy and one of the leaders in green technology.

Maybe one thing we can be commended for? I won’t hold my breath.

  28. Sparsly populated countries will have higher emissions because of transporting stuff and driving in general. See scandic countries for example. Sweden is a bit of an outlier because of huge portion of hydroenergy and biggest cities.

  29. How is North Korea’s so high? I know relative it is very low, but it is still higher than India, and india is an industrial powerhouse while NK is too poor to produce enough food for its citizens to eat. Where are the emissions coming from

  30. Per capita values are an aweful statistic as most high population countries don’t have an homogenous distribution of emissions or even general standards of living.

  31. why is the difference between France and Germany so high? expect electricity production there shouldn’t be so many differences. (energy caust 37% in 2022 in Germany)

  32. Romanias numbers being in the top 3 lowest in the EU is impressive considering their overall size and industrial base.

  33. Estonia’s information is taken from 2019. In 2022, it was 5.1, actually.

  34. It’s a scam. CO2 is the foundation of life. All plants on this planet absorb CO2 because they feed on it. We ourselves are also carbon-based life. So someone clearly hates us, us, the human race.
