This map contains many (but not all) of the possibilities for European rewilding (and deextinction, you can toggle it on/off from the menu.
There isn’t only megafauna, but it is a major part of it, together with possible parks and reserves where they are missing (or to join some that already exist).
This is sort of a guideline, a blueprinte i use also for myself to keep track of where and what to do certain activities as i’m quite into politics and trying to push for a better world in all regards, including environment.
If i can be honest it really shows (especially rewilding) how much we lost and how much damage we have caused with antropization, this said i believe a map to follow is quite useful. I tried to stick to databases and scientific information wherever available, or the inferred one when the empiric data is not enough (example: wapiti remins have been found in France, it is inferred that it lived throughout northern Europe then).
Reintroductions tend to be centralized in nuclei to use as centers for spreading species, in the hope that the various nuclei will end up connecting with each other (reserves are needed for this as well, the light green ones especially tend to be less strict, for example it’s not like we’ll destroy agricultural fields to bring forests back, but we need to protect the wildlife existing in them and for example restrict the construction of new buildings within, possibly taking measures to connect the wild areas that exist within such zones.
The map itself, to be fair, includes other, non fauna/flora oriented ones, like hydrop pumped storage plants, because, as i said, i use it to keep track of what can or at least could be done (but noone is saying it should done everywhere.. those are just possibilities, not necessarily objectives) in various regards.
I’ll try to do my best to achieve such results, to build a strong support group towards that direction. If you are interested, why don’t you pass by r/EarthGovernment or r/EarthGovernmentEU ?
