Last week, I started using the digital wellbeing features on my phone (Android, but iOS has them too) to limit the use of social media to 1 hour a day (if I use them more, the phone locks the apps). You can do this to all apps. I also block social media and other apps between 6AM and 9AM, and after 8 PM (the phone goes on grayscale mode, too).

Let me tell you – I have felt AMAZING since and have noticed lots of change. I’m more productive, I have finished so many jobs around the house that were just being ignored. My sleep got much better too! I track my sleeping (through a smart watch), and I’m hitting scores in the 90s while I was always in the 60-70 range. Also, there are positive effects on my mental health, especially from stopping apps like instagram and facebook!

Really highly recommend to try these features.

  1. i noticed the same when I ended up using imgur too much and just doomscrolling out of habit. completely deleted it and haven’t used it since.
Reddit creeps up like that too so I purge my accounts occasionally. My phone is basically a default account to i might have a quick look at r/all, check this sub then lose interest.
Worryingly though i introduced the partner to reddit and now they can’t sleep without it. It was youtube videos before that. it’s like sucking a dummy for adults.

  2. Might try that. Caught myself wasting a full hour last night on absolute shite.
