  2. Sounds like he’s anti-Zionist, which is a legitimate political position, and not anti-semitic. Any statement involving the word “Israel” is not about Jews, it’s about the state of Israel.

    I don’t agree with all the positions he held there – I think Israel should be allowed to exist as a state – but it’s not anti-semitic to hold them. It’s interesting that nobody thinks it’s Islamophobic or suspension worthy to not recognise Palestine as a state – indeed that is the ongoing position of governments around the world.

  3. Somebody should really do a study of what proportion of “abhorrent antisemitic” statements cited in the media actually turn out to be just criticism of jewish ethno-nationalism.

    Then again, if they work in academia they’d better check if their university has adopted the IHRA guidelines on anti-semitism first.
