  1. wait since when did he change his tune. he was a pro-Russian shill two months ago and his party voted against an aid package for Ukraine last year

  2. Ok as a Dutch person now ready to give some context. Geert Wilders is a right wing politician that (unfortunately) won our elections. In the past he had warm ties with Russia. In 2017 he visited Russia (which was controversial for a Dutch politican after MH17 crash) and described Russia as an ally in the fight against terrorism and African immigration.
Also recently the Dutch NewsPlatform FollowTheMoney revealed how politcians of his political parties were invited on paid trips to Russia and how they in return spread Russian propaganda. Wilders’ political party PVV didn’t make a clear stance on the situation in Ukraine in the recent electioncampaign they won. Yet in general the PVV is still an anti Europe, isolist party that tries not to get involved in international topics. Multiple times the PVV stated they didn’t want militairy support for Ukraine as they deemed the stocks to scarse to part with.
In general the PVV is still considered a party at least catering Russias desires for a part.

In the most recent elections the party gained 23% of the vote and became the biggest party. They are in talks of creating a coaltion. His coalitionpartner VVD is more pro Ukraine and direct weaponssupply. The party was the leading one in the previous coalition and ensured Ukraine of a lot of support if one looks at the relative small size of the country.
The current statement seems to be a word a charming offensive to the VVD from Wilders. In general support for Ukraine under the Dutch population is among the highest in Europe, the previous coalition already ensured the provision of 2.5 billion euro for Ukraine. Something that is unlikely to be backtracked by the future coaltion.

  3. Still think he shouldn’t be allowed in the government

  4. Im not a fan of Wilders and certainly did not vote for him but i woud not be surprised if he is going to follow the path of Gorgia Meloni of Italy. (not that i know that much on Italian politics but the publications before she was choosen seems to have similarities with whats written about Wilders)
