“Turkey is a low-key dictatorship” is actually a good pro-unification narrative that Cyprus should exploit more, instead of “waahhh they took our land waahhhh”,
From the perspective of TCs, if Cyprus unified, would it guarantee be a democracy for TC? The last time it happened, they were discriminated against and attacked. Maybe if the GC right wing started talking about how well TC would be treated in a unified Cyprus, it would help push the narrative.
Bottom line: Turkey is a dictatorship and dictatorships are low key trash. RoC is a democracy with civil rights etc.
^^ That should be the message for why the TC should join with GC.
I don’t think Turkiye currently is in the political climate to challenge the narrative that has been going on for 50 years, two states. While I am very fond of Yusuf for speaking his mind to influence the people of Turkiye on the topic, I think the approach where we focus on convincing the Turkish Cypriot community to speed up the negotiation efforts, and respect whatever the outcome is, bi-communal bi-zonal, full unification, two states, etc could actually work. I think Turkiye would have no choice but to leave once the negotiations bear fruit.
