  1. They were maga before it was cool. So there was nothing to distort. They are power mongering authoritarians.

  2. MAGA Christians have become Shi’a Islam now. Nothing but fealty to an all powerful religious leader (Ayatollah Don) and militantly ignorant.

  3. Churches want to play in politics they need to pay taxes like everyone else. As an ordained minister I’m disgusted by it.

  4. Or has Christian nationalism taken over the GOP as Barry Goldwater warned?

  5. As Americans enter the MLK day remembrance.

Id like to take a moment to blame the Abrahamic faiths for EVERYTHING.

  6. The Apostld Paul said the end will not come unless there is first a great falling away and that God would send a strong delusion so that they’d believe a lie.

  7. Well, it turns out when you have a group of people whose hallmark is magical thinking in something decidedly not real, they are vulnerable to the loudest magical thinking in the room.

Trump as God’s instrument, COVID is a bioweapon and/or not real, 5g, QANON.

  8. I try to ignore religion, live and let live and all that, but these evangelicals want in my bedroom and life and I can’t have that.  So, get fucked Nat-c’s. You asked for that.

  9. To be fair, it needed to be eaten, but now it has formed a megazord of hate we must vanquish.

    A Magazord, if you will.

  10. MAGA is largely Nationalist Christian’s (Nat-Cs for short)

  11. For decades they chastised, and ended careers of politicians that showed any type of impropriety. Now it’s completely opposite with trump. — This quote comes to mind when dealing with ‘these’ evangelical christians.

    Matthew 23:13

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.”

  12. As long as Trump continues to cavort with prostitutes, mock the disabled, denigrate immigrants, cheats and steals, he will have a lock on the “christian” evangelical vote.

  13. What’s sad about these Talibangelicals is how they refuse to follow the teachings of their supposed Lord and Saviour and simply want to inflict pain and suffering on others. Orange Jesus was their Second Coming.

  14. They are all in for someone who is literally *the complete opposite of Jesus* in every single way possible. You might even say he’s anti-christ.

  15. The KKK has been burning crosses for a very long time.

  16. Now that the bag is filled with dogshit, the only thing left to do is set it on fire, on the RNC’s doorstep. It’s the karmic justice they’ve had coming for about 50 years now.

  17. These people believe they’re morally superior to others and that this moral hierarchy should be transformed into a social one. Their religious leaders promise that god will do this in the afterlife. Trump promises to do it in this one. He will place them on a pedestal by bringing their enemies down. He depicts society as a natural hierarchy and social interactions as a zero sum game (winners and losers). By bringing down others he elevates them, turning rights into privileges by taking them away from the undeserving. Similarly, his revenge on his political opponents is a proxy for the power they want over theirs.

There is no trace of morality in all of this article. They didn’t care about people. They only cared about the primacy of their ideas, their leadership and power. They supported Trump, thinking to turn their religious authority into political power through him, and lost both.

These religious leaders simply misunderstood their position and have lost before everyone else will. They failed to grasp the fundamental truth that their followers do not believe what they do because it is right, but because it makes them feel they are right. And Trump made the better offer.

  18. Both are unhinged and dangerous and I would classify them now as hate groups

  19. They willingly assimilated.

It was only a matter of time before they decided they have found their christ-like annoited one, and I guess Trump was their bus stop…

  20. Or: This is what Christian Evangelicalism has always been.

  21. They made a deal with the devil, got everything they wanted…..and now here comes the punchline. I hope I live long enough to see their ultimate regret for abandoning every principal they ever had.

  22. Southern Evangelicalism was built on racism and white nationalism since before the Civil War so it shouldn’t be a shock to anyone that once there became a white nationalist president they would flock to his support.

The whole reason there are ‘Southern’ and ‘Northern’ evangelical churches is because of the issues of slavery

  23. This happened so long ago that if they were Trump, they’d be suing Trump for patent infringement. The John Birch Society would like a word, for one. Depending on how you define “evangelical,” even the KKK might have a case for the first instance of “Maga devouring Evangelicalism.”

  24. They can have it, rotten to the core. Flush it and move on. (preacher’s kid, grew up in an actual religious commune. Worst ‘normal’ people out there)

  25. Its the same brain. Whether its religious or political, blind unquestioning faith acts as their therapist. It allows them to navigate and explain things they cannot otherwise due to a lack of critical thought skills or years of indoctrination.

  26. Devoured…not sure about that. But it has exposed how morally bankrupt and generally stupid the evangelicals are.

  27. American evangelical Christianity has been a white nationalist movement from its inception. This is just the logical outcome.

  28. For anyone who thinks this is new, watch Jesus Camp. The Evangelicals are desperate for this kind of person to come along, and they did it with George Bush. The only difference is that George Bush wasn’t enough of a narcissist to market himself as a messianic figure.

  29. Utter, nonsensical, bullshit. American Evangelicals have been eagerly offering themselves up to whatever charlatan is enough of a Pharisee to ask for them for literally my entire life.

They are lambs in search of sacrifice, and always have been. That’s their self-selected purpose, because they want to try and force Christ’s return – losing none of the irony that they’re setting the specific scenario for the antichrist.

  30. If you grew up in the south, you know most people are not religiously Christian. They are *culturally* Christian and that is much more susceptible to societal winds. In their case, the Maga brain is the prevailing mindset so its no surprise they are one and the same now.

  31. Evangelicals do not worship Christ, they worship political expediency, power and oppression of “others.” They are (as I think I saw someone else put it) Christist. But they are not Christians.

  32. Former evangelical christian here, they were always like this. I was taught by my father that non-whites weren’t people, that women and children must ALWAYS be silent and obedient and that gays should be killed in the streets. Those beliefs were reinforced by cruelty and hypocrisy and violence. For example: when I was three years old I overheard my mom and my grandmother arguing about something (I didn’t find out until I was an adult exactly what they were arguing about). I asked my grandmother about it later and she responded by burning my hand on a coffee maker.”Don’t question god” and “Spare the rod, spoil the child” were her favorite things to say. The thing that they were arguing about BTW? My grandmother gave Pat Robertson my Grandfather’s life insurance policy ($100,000 in 1982).

  33. Having grown up in Christian evangelicalism I would never allow someone I love to be put through it. I was loved until I was dumped because I was gay. I’ll never forget that lesson that people’s love especially Christians is based on externalized morality and hatred of things that are different.

I have infinite trust problems because of the betrayal at the hands of my parents. The people who always said they loved me until it simply dissolved in one moment when I was 19.

  34. Eh, story missis the context, ‘Trump’ didn’t change evangelicals, this is what they always were, their religion is supremacy. White evangelicals always score highest in poll categories around white grievances. People need to just accept this and stop acting shocked, this is exactly white white evangelicalism is.

“Maga” is just the latest form of the Dixiecrats. They’ve always been evangelicals. Hell the only reason abortion is even an issue outside of Catholics is because Carter forced white evangelicals in integrate their segregation academies and they flipped out and started the moral majority and slapped ‘abortion’ on the signs to look as not racist as they were, even though most of the evangelical leaders were segregationist. And christian radio for decades has been nothing but right-wing politics as religion. This is exactly who they are.

  35. Christian Evangelism is and has always been fascist. I credit my three years living in rural Texas and seeing what these monsters are actually like with my being able to see what Trump was right away. They’re one and the same. They care only about their own power and any pretense at morality is utterly flexible and applies only to their pre-determined enemies.

  36. Because Maga represents the actual values evangelicals hold dear, not the professed values they were claiming to have

  37. That implies evangelicalism was somehow corrupted. It was always a facade. Maga and evangelicals were made for each other.

  38. No, it’s not all Christian Evangelicals. It’s mostly White Christian Evangelicals. Sadly, race plays a big role.
