If they reined in some of the excessive salaries paid to freelancers, perhaps they’d be able to keep Panorama at 40 mins.
oh no. better tighten up that ideological purity testing and hiring based on <physical attribute fascio> as if that indicates creative talent.
What a surprise after the debacle regarding their biases a few years ago.
I get that viewing habits have changed, but still, no better way to drive your viewers away than claiming impartiality then blatantly lying to everyone.
Explains why Doctor Who has been sold off to disney 🙄
The BBC should only be doing truly unbiased news and sport and programmes that are too niche or experimental for commercial stations. They only need two channels to that. TV’s dying anyway, even commercial channels are struggling.
👍 it’s shit anyway
Shouldn’t force people to fund it
Good. Hopefully it hastens the demise of the whole sorry thing. If this gets it out of my pockets then I’m all for it going bust.
Massive website, regional rubbish, Gary fucking Lineker, no decent sport and endless preaching. All funded by a tax with a different name.
Drop the “fee” to £10 and just do the news and current affairs. Or charge people if they want to watch it.
They’ve been doing too much. The BBC must be protected but all we need is BBC News, BBC1, BBC2. Keep making quality stuff on those channels, charge everyone but the UK for iPlayer. Jobs a good’en
It really bothers me that the more creative things such as Mark Gatiss’s adaptations of ghost stories for Xmas or the like struggle for funding but the BBC put on like 3 months of ballroom dancing a year and never ending soap operas like eastenders.
It just needs fundamental reform at this point. People are dragged to court over the licence fee and still they can’t be financially viable.
Run out of money?
How do you run out when you have a constant income.
All public services have gotten worse under the Tories, the BBC is unfortunately no exception.
Stop paying football pundits the sort of money even Sky would think twice about. If it’s football-related and Sky get worried, then so should you. They’re the football kings and they know what they’re doing.
Stop paying newsreaders £400k a year to read an autocue, especially when they are behaving like a scumbag behind closed doors and ultimately bring the BBC into disrepute.
Great news! Long may the decline continue.
The once great TV channel has fallen victim to box ticking forced token minority bollocks and deserves its fate.
I encourage everyone to stop paying the TV license.
Sorry lads that’s my fault. Not been paying my TV license
Wheels fall off the Tory propaganda machine. How sad. /s
I’d love to contribute… shame they dont offer iPlayer screaming without paying for a tv license…
What is there in one for our content to other countries?
Considering the reach of the BBC I dont know why instead of another stupid Apprentice series, they don’t do a Find a Newsreader or Find a Presenter or Find a Sports Presenter series and do like an X Factor competition to find people from the general public, voted for by the public.
It would get more connection with their audience, be considerably cheaper as they could employ that person for 12mths on £30k instead of £200k to read an autocue.
For sports I’m sure there are people out there that have more passion and know a lot more about football than Gary Lineker
No surprise. Their programming is terrible. Last decent show they had was great British bake off and they let channel 4 ruin it!
I look forward to Mrs Brown’s Boys no longer being on then…
Not surprised. They’re viewership numbers have been in decline for ages. Many reasons why, a major one being that they’re no longer non-partisan.
Not going to lie, couldn’t remember the last time I saw anything BBC related. Don’t have a TV license or anything.
Actually, it was old Top Gear episodes that I watched. Apart from that, nothing really.
Ditch the shit shows that promote landlords buy more houses and people buying exclusive million pound houses. Also shows like benifit cheats etc.
I’m just pleased we’re finally getting Wolf Hall series 2.
About time the salaries were dropped …then the pensions ..we are(the public) funding (without a choice) a jolly good huge payment for a lot of family connections , Nepos and your mates . About time we had value for money.
I have nothing against the BBC but this talk of them having “run out of money” evokes the same feeling as if a millionaire said they run out of money after buying another yacht & mansion to add to their collection. Having worked with/around the BBC, it is quite eye opening to see the amount of money they spend on things . . . salaries being an obvious one.
You mean bullying and threatening people with fines and convictions via a fake company meant to look like a government agency isn’t working anymore?
Zoe Ball is paid £980,000. No one should be paid this amount of money for any job let alone for talking shite on the radio. It’s disgusting.
Better axe those Gaza-Israel reporters that put out Pro-Hamas propaganda.
Stop voting for tax cuts. You get what you vote for. See: NHS, public transport, education.
I’ve never really considered it, but where does all the money go from merchandising, licensing, syndication of their programs, as well all the commercial arms that exist ?
Should just Axe the Channels and Axe the License or force them to go on the advertising route. Sick of living in a country where entertainment means sanctioned extortion
how are they ment to even make a good show now ??
“I want to make a show about a lone man’s travel into space ”
and a film about a women stuck all alone on a remote island trying to survive.
bbc…. OK but it needs a man in a wheelchair, a gay sence, a black man, a white man to oppress the black man and the women, and we need to fit in all their flash backs of how they was belittled for being black, gay, crippled as a child that made them become strong and independent
so you have about 5mins of air time for the space bit.
and we will have to make a point this is the 1st women in space atleast 18 times per episode
Isn’t the clue in game shows where the top prize is £250?
It’s not about them over spending, they are not that egregious, it’s because they have been radically defunded…The License Fee never covered everything, if they ever got the full amount. The BBC in its current format needs a Government that cares about it for it to have what it needs.
The biggest way for the BBC to save money it to cut ALL sport coverage. Football costs a small fortune, as does Wimbledon, but for a lot of people BBC sports coverage is how they feel they get their money back out of the fee. So the best way is probably the most unpopular…But IMO original content is more important that sport content.
The sooner I dont have to pay the BBC just so I can have a tv the better
Not surprised, people are sick of constant identity politics and the talentless overpaid presenters probably aren’t helping either
And the Daily Mail point you at gary Linekar and you take the bait?
…why? His wage is a drop in the ocean. You’re being manipulated again, just like with Brexit. Wake up.
Fact – This nation will become poorer in terms of culture and influence without the BBC televison, radio and services.
They should refocus their resources on producing quality programming, not spaffing money on keeping celebrities with ever inflating pay demands on. Let them go off to ITV, who cares.
