‘[UNRWA] functions in many ways as a second government’ • FRANCE 24 English

In uh Israel putting out videos the the the IDF Israel’s Defense Forces putting out videos showing tunnels leading from un shelters uh showing tunnels leading from un schools tunnels they alleged were used by militants and we didn’t really see much of a response from unra to that I saw an interview with Philip

Lazarini the UN the unra chief and he said he didn’t know anything about that uh but now this has been almost instantaneous the information was presented yesterday and uh what we know we know very little about the actual facts James it’s quite interesting Israel is usually uh not backward with

Presenting these kind of facts but they haven’t to us but they must have pre prevented presented something compelling to unra itself uh we know that they have um fired 12 people pending an investigation and that some of the information was Intelligence Israel has gathered from uh from Hamas militants

Whom it Arrested after the October 7th attacks so they came in into Israel they were arrested and they were interrogated but other than that we don’t know what it contains but we know that the United Nations has responded promptly the UN Secretary General has said he’s appalled

And is in requiring an investigation and un itself says it’s investigating as well as sacking them so I can only imagine that you’re right the information must be compelling the countries who’ have paused their aid uh were talking lots of money here one thing we do know is that this will

Seriously hamper the agency won’t it it could easily hamper the agency depending how long it lasts for at the moment uh you know they are very much in need of funding because they are running things in the Gaza Strip unra itself is an interesting organization because it

Has the name UN in its title but it’s not an ordinary un organization it’s funded independently it’s been running since 1950 and it functions in many ways as a second government within the Palestinian territories from Gaza through to the West Bank in Lebanon Syria and Jordan as well and in that

Time it’s become embedded in Palestinian Society most of the people who work there are local hire and I think they have the prejudices and the beliefs that local higher people do and in the past we have heard allegations from Israel about Hamas and indeed uh PLO opinions

Seeping in to unra and I guess now we’re seeing that perhaps if these allegations are correct uh other things have have seeped into unra which includes violence as well and that’s very problematic for a United Nations organization

FRANCE 24’s correspondent in Jerusalem Irris Mackler said, “UNRWA is an interesting organisation — it’s funded independently, it has been running since 1950, and it functions in many ways as a second government in the Palestinian territories”.

  1. Will France🇫🇷 continue to support UNRWA and its Hamas members, several of whom participated in the October 7 massacre?

🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 🇨🇦🇫🇮 🇮🇹 have all done the right thing and suspended funding to @UNRWA, pending investigations. UNRWA personnel were active in the October 7 massacre.

    @francediplo @France24_fr @franceinfo @afp

  2. International criminal states are now joining hands
“ information under Interrogation by IDF “ ? OMG , you call that evidence ?

  3. UNRWA may very well function as a " secondary" government in gaza, however, when itis staffed with palestinians that are hamas criminal terrorists it is then nothing more then an extension of the primary government…while those " workers for UNRWA" are doing nothing less then hiding under that label…what they have also done is destroy the UN'S longstanding neutrality…that is completely unacceptable by any measure.

  4. Palestine does not really produce anything. It doesn't have a thriving economy. Anyone care to explain to me how Hamas' leadership all somehow became billionaires living abroad? Gee, ya think maybe it had something to do with terrorist financing networks and U.N. aid rackets?

  5. New israeli propanda, first it was about beheaded babies, then Alshifa hospital was the command center of hamas, now it is this. Israel and its allies want to deflect people 's attention from recent ICJ's ruling. And western countries are aiding that.

  6. u want gazans /unrwa employees to stand idly by??what are u kiddin??who are they foolin-it's open secret for yrs.they are forced to work hand in hand with hamas..

  7. It is very clear that they are plotting to genocide Palestinian civilians. They continue to fund & arm the IDF which continues to carry out massacres of Palestinian civilians, but stops funding humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians.

  8. UNRWA tied up with the PLO in the early 1980s. Probably a long association with terrorism. It those days it received most of its funding from western countries with little or next to nothing from Arab governments. Probably not much different today.

  9. Caught storing weapons in schools, Caught building tunnels from schools, caught teaching extremism, caught doing all kinds of things over the decades. The real question is, why are western governments only waking up now to this issue? funding should of been cut long ago.

  10. Who is surprised by that? From the beginning it has been said that Hamas is an idea, and Israel justifies the killing of more than 26,000 Palestinians by mixing Hamas with civilians. The real question is: Why is Hamas's position like that, how will Israel eradicate Hamas, and why did Israel accuse UNWRA just now?

It is unfortunate that the US and its vassals are punishing the entire Palestinian people, although it is in line with Israel's actions.

  11. The Palestinians can be taken over by UNHCR, as All other almost 200 countries are served by. Next they should stop the UNRWA Refugee status of people that should have been classified as IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) and not Refugees. They moved from one area in the former British Mandate of Palestine to other areas of the former British Mandate lands.
The Palestinians can transfer their Refugee Status to their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and adopted childrenm which No other Refugee population can do. Palestinians that have citizenship from other countries are still considered as refugees under the UNRWA definition, no other Refugee population can do that. Time to leave only True Palestinian Refugees, there are today less than 25,000 it is estimated.

  12. I would be highly suspicious of anyone who lives or works in hamas ruled territory, UN or otherwise.
Gaza attracts people who are sympathetic to hamas terrorists.
Based on this, and the fact that any people who don't make any effort to create a nation, but want to remain refugees, shouldn't be supported by their own special UN agency.
Countries should be refusing to support UNRWA indefinitely, and not just suspending support.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should be offering refuge to the people of gaza.
It is the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations. It has a membership of 57 states spread over four continents.

  13. The fact that UNWRA has a whopping 13,000 employees in Gaza really makes you wonder, doesn't it? Why do they need such a huge team for just aid work? It almost looks like they're stepping into roles that should be Hamas' job, like running the place.

It’s THIS huge presence of UNWRA that enables Hamas to forgo its governance responsibilities so it can focus solely on building 500 km of tunnels and rockets It’s so big, its bigger than the NYC subway system.

So the big question: why is UNWRA governing Gaza. That’s a job for an elected government. They weren’t elected.

UNWRA should be making sure HAMAS governs, not governing for Hamas. Without UNWRA taking care of the governance of Gaza, Hamas could never have built these tunnels.

It’s only because UNWRA assumed all of the governance in Gaza, that Hamas was able to terrorize Israel for 16 years, instead of taking care of their people.

  14. Lmao sore loosers 😂😂😂 the genocidal maniacs lost at the ICJ now they retaliate with famine…….😂😂😂😂

"They presented something" "i imagine" lmao this supposed journalism 😂😂😂😂

  15. UN and UNWRA should be closed.
UN only scream at Israel, not to terrorist hamas and putin.
UN and UNWRA related with terrorist hamas?
