US pauses funding to UNRWA amid allegations of staff role in Oct 7 attacks • FRANCE 24 English

I’m hearing uh from sources inside the United Nations that the impact of this suspension is likely to be large we know that most of the funding for unra uh comes from the United States last year the US gave uh almost 344 million that is a significant amount

Over the second place donor uh which was Germany with $200 million so uh almost twice as much as Germany the EU then behind that with 115 million and it goes significantly down from there so a lot of unr’s budget came from uh the United States’s uh donations uh and their work

Is including uh human development but also uh the monitoring of those refugee camps in Gaza and the biggest thing which of course is what everybody has their eyes on now is the aid that is going into Gaza that is something the United States has worked hard to get

Into Gaza ever since this conflict broke out on October 7th they’ve worked to try and get those levels up and up and up uh and now they are getting to a much healthier uh rate almost what we saw before the conflict broke out in October uh and the United States now threatens

To jeopardize that by taking away this money that unra has unra itself says even before these allegations came out that the agency was almost on its knees unable to cope with the the demand that was needed uh so it’s likely to have a big impact but what directly will be

Impacted on the ground aside from that Aid we don’t know yet but we will find out I’m sure uh as this uh effect this uh decision takes effect

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees fired a number of its staffers in Gaza suspected of taking part in the October 7 attack by Hamas and other militants on southern Israel, its director said Friday. The move prompted the United States, the agency’s biggest donor, to temporarily halt its funding. By doing so, “the US threatens to jeopardise humanitarian aid coming into Gaza Strip,” says FRANCE 24 correspondent Fraser Jackson, reporting from Washington DC.

  1. WHAT?

    WHAT?

Let’s not pretend we didn’t all know this was going on. Come on guys, the public are not this stupid.

The level of UN employees involvement in terrorism and politics is widely known by EVERYONE.

The Gaza issue is the tip of the iceberg. It is widely known that you need to be of a left wing persuasion to even be considered for any UN role.

Take the Secretary General….. A member of the Portugese Socialist Party and former President of Socialist International.

    He needs to go first!

  2. You missed the point. The reason US is stopping the funding because ICJ accepted the genocide case against Israel and some of the evidence were the reports of UNRWA. Israel then blamed that 12 out of 13000 UNRWA workers were hamas members which even if they were, political affiliation has nothing to do with your job but US who is supporting genocide as it looks like retaliated and stopped funding of UNRWA. We are living in darkest times of US history. And if not now we will definitely end up in WW3 if Biden is elected again. Make your vote count!

  3. Sadly ordinary people pay the price for the fanatics. Took them long enough to find out the money wasn’t going where it should, sheer negligence by those responsible.

  4. Russia and Turkey will replace the funding since both are so converned sbout Palestinians .
Russia and Turkey can now put their money where their mouth is

  5. 😢😢 you talking about involvement but not bringing evidence about that staff,if its true let the TV .channels look for him ask him his role otherwise it may be a justification for idf to masacre pple sheltering in UN shelters😢😢

  6. So a pause in funding means what? No help for people who are already starving there I guess? This should be investigated. I’m not saying it isn’t true, but the timing after the ruling by the court is just so incredibly convenient. This day and age it’s really hard to know what’s real.

  7. UNRWA must rebuild the trust of international community by third party independence investigations for whole organization in Gaza so that it can continue its services in there or replaces by wFP or Red Cross.

  8. The 'Palestinians' have been sucking at the teat of the UN for the last 75 years.

Why do they get free money, free food, free housing, free clothing, free medical care, while desperate and needy people around the world don't know what they will eat or wear, where they will live, or how to pay for medical care?

The time for this travesty to stop is NOW.

  9. stop donation! those useless organization.. let arabs nation and majority muslim in south east asia take over and start putting their money where their mouth is!

  10. UN should be a talking shop with zero funding. Each country's members should fund their own way, same with EU. Use existing politicians and infrastructure, zero cash
