Controversial former general Prabowo Subianto claims victory in Indonesia election

Indonesia’s former defence minister Prabowo Subianto, 72, has claimed victory as early results showed him being on course to win. Subianto struck a conciliatory tone in a speech to supporters in Jakarta, vowing to be a president for Indonesians of all backgrounds, saying: ‘Prabowo-Gibran and all of the Indonesia Forward coalition will embrace all elements and powers and become the president, vice-president and government present for all the people of Indonesia.’

The controversial former general, once banned from the US, is alleged to have been involved in human rights abuses in East Timor and Papua New Guinea but rebranded himself with a TikTok campaign in which he pitched himself as a cuddly grandpa with awkward dance moves.

More than 200 million people were eligible to vote in the election in what was the largest single-day vote in the world.

  1. " If west hated it then he must be rigt! " What a flawless logic, definitely nothing wrong with it. I can say alot about this matter, but i dont feel like it, so i will just tell you all the pure unadultered truth.

The west might lost their grip on Indonesian resources, but the resources not going to Indonesian either, its big daddy C property now.

  2. My thoughts are with the people of Timor Leste. They never got justice from the crimes against humanity committed by Indonesian armed forces. It must be incredibly unjust to see the person responsible now become a president.

    Reparations for Timor Leste!!

  3. Negara asing jangan suka ikut campur politic INDONESIA, urus negara kalian sendiri. Kalau mau bantulah PALESTINA/atau negara yang sedang dilanda kemiskinan kalau memang negara anda punya kemampuan.

  5. Western elites don't like Prabowo… so Western media spread lies by arguing that Prabowo is a human rights criminal who killed activists of 98

In fact, the majority of 98 activists are Prabowo supporters. and Prabowo has never committed crimes against humanity.

We, the Indonesian people, already understand the lies of the West
