> “I experience the bench as a normal thing, also because doing it differently would be counterproductive.”

Isn’t it frustrating to be competing with Micki-Calha-Barella?”

> “No, it’s stimulating. I feel like a modern, intense midfielder, but I have to make my own path: if I want to aim to be a starter in the future, I need to improve in the buildup phase.
The role model is Barella: he was more of an attacking midfielder before, but with work he improved a lot in managing the ball. Here, I have to do the same.”

> “You can’t help but enter the San Siro with blood in your eyes. With the energy that the stadium gives you, I could break the walls with my head. Now a nice little environment awaits us in Madrid… We have to hold on, especially at the beginning. Then, as time passes, they will have to open up and we know how to do badly on the restart.”

> “I always believe it, I throw myself: me
Stealing a strong ball is more exciting than scoring, but it’s always nice to score a goal. Even nicer to see a team where everyone is involved.
Inzaghi was good at not “losing” anyone: even when the same ones were always playing, he came to talk to us, to motivate us. It makes you feel important, that’s what counts.”

> “The level is very high, yet no one does the phenomenon. Then Inzaghi knows how to manage us: even when you have a bad day, he doesn’t make you feel bad about it, and tells you the right word. In this group everyone has a role: take the importance behind the scenes of Arna, who now has to pay… Before Atletico, he, I, Asllani and Carlos Augusto decided that, for every goal, whoever scores gives a gift to the other three. We are waiting for Arna, but with the goal in Lecce it will be my turn too…”

  1. They should probably sign midfielders from other leagues then.

  2. Davide “Breaking walls with his head” Frattesi. What a boss.

  3. I have said this here before: when everyone is at 100% I absolutely think Mkhit should start along with Barella and Calha. Fratessi is a great prospect especially in scoring but even he knows at this stage he is not as “complete” and cannot bring what Mkhit has been bringing so far to the team. People saying otherwise are simply driven by age bias.

With that said, I do think Simone overused/over-relied on Mkhit. In my opinion there were many opportunities to both give Mkhit more rest and Fratessi more playing time. It’s a win-win situation to keep our starting 11 fresh as well as more chances for new players to integrate.

  4. I did think he would be a starter right away but I cant complain with how things have gone so far

  5. > if I want to aim to be a starter in the future, I need to improve in the buildup phase.

Ok even he realises what im saying you can’t just run 24/7 in attack..
If he fixes that with time he is future starter for sure.

  6. What I struggle to understand is where he is supposed to play eventually? Next year, with Zielinski coming in and Miki still in the team, he’s still going to be Barella’s backup, which means very little minutes. Then once Miki leaves either him or Barella will be forced to play in an unnatural position on the left, if we want to start both of them. I think that if Zielinski proves himself worthy Simone won’t have many reasons to not play him instead in his natural position… So what, should we sell Barella eventually? Or maybe Frattesi himself?

  7. I remember that he waited for a month to join us and rejected many offers. Hopefully we can rely on him in near future, Mkhitaryan is hot and cold lately.
