  10. It seems Europeans never learn from their past mistakes. Neutrality does work, and military alliances do not prevent wars. Military alliances only determine which side you are going to pick once a war begins.
    They DO NOT prevent conflicts. Europeans have a gang mentality when it comes to war, that's why they've had two World Wars on their continent which killed over 80 million people.

    If you know your history, then you know that World War I spread across Europe because of military alliances. WW1 began as an isolated conflict between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. But prior to this war, Austria-Hungary already had a military pact with Germany and Serbia already had a pact with Russia.

    After Austria-Hungary and Serbia went to war, they activated their alliances with Germany and Russia which sparked World War I. France and Britain also had a pre-WW1 pact with Russia called the Triple Entente which dragged them into the war. This is the classic Europe's political "gang mentality" and it's just being reenacted in the Ukraine crisis.

    Defense pacts and agreements only bring more countries into wars that typically start between two parties.
    Also, Finland joining NATO doesnt really prevent a future conflict. Revisionists people claim that NATO's existance is what prevented WW3 during the Cold War. That's bull, the US and Soviets had already developed nuclear weapons before NATO was even formed in 1949.
    The US and Soviets avoided WW3 and fought proxy wars because they both had nukes, not because NATO or the Warsaw Pact existed. The nuclear arms race started before NATO even existed and mutual destruction/nuclear deterrence would have still occurred with or without NATO or the Warsaw Pact forming.

    Anyone who thinks their country or land is safe from a future war just by joining an alliance has either never read history books or are have simply been radicalized by recent political events. If you could time travel to Europe in 1914 before WW1 and walk the streets, you would probably find reckless dumb extreme people running around saying ridiculous things similar to the war mongering nonsense that I read on a daily basis from some of the European people in every comment section of every Russian/ Ukrainian video. Times changes, people do not.
