Paul Tierney will not referee a Premier League game this weekend and will instead act as VAR for Arsenal vs Brentford

  1. Him missing one weekend is hardly a punishment is it. He still gets paid, still part of the team, still ready to make terrible decisions next weekend.

Taylor, Tierney, Brooks, Pawson and Gillett are fucking awful at decision making.

  2. There’s no need for him to worry though, he’ll be back in a big game after the international break

  3. Sounds like Arsenal and Brentford are being punished. Why not just have him not involved at all

  4. I’m sure r/gunners and r/arsenalfc will take this news well.

Also can any arsenal fans enlighten me on the difference between the two subs? Does one have a better reputation than the other?

  5. I don’t get this.

If they think that the error was that egregious then why repeatedly put him in a position where he can effect the outcome of games.

The fact that VAR duty is viewed as a punishment for incompetence goes a long way to showing why VAR is in the state that it is. It should be a specialised profession, not the naughty step.

  6. i think putting him on var is even worse with the way that thing is operated

  7. 🤣 inevitable VAR fiasco incoming…. And the conspiracy that the FA has something against Arsenal will be renewed again 🤣

  8. At least there is no recent history of VAR controversy in the Arsenal v Brentford fixture

  9. VAR duty being a punishment will surely help improve VAR.

  10. Ah good, as we all know, it’s almost unheard for there to be any issues in the VAR process…

  11. Oh so after helping Liverpool gain points he’s been ordered to help Arsenal…classic premier league nothing to see here

  12. What the actual fuck? Like sure, he‘s incompetent as fuck, he shouldn‘t be reffing anything.

But how, amongst his plethora of aweful decisions across the years, has he been „suspended“ for such a minor mistake?

Is this just because Forest hired Clatters?

  13. FWIW I can’t recall him really having a blunder to this point? I never really fear a game he is managing. That’s coming from an Arsenal fan. I’m not worried at all.

  14. so rather than being demoted to the championship or getting remedial training he gets another chance to botch a call using var. brilliant.

  15. Refereeing in this country needs a massive overhaul. Why is it that he can be stood down from being an on field ref due to making a mistake but can remain in a position of authority in another game? Ridiculous.

  16. The outrage over such a nothing decision is ridiculous. There’s a worse officiating mistake every other game. I remember Salah conceding a freekick because Bernardo Silva tried to do an MMA manouvre on him, and the response not being anywhere nearly as loud.
