Michael Oliver was correct not to give a penalty to Liverpool against #ManCity when Jérémy Doku looked to have caught Alexis Mac Allister with a raised foot, the Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel has ruled.

  1. This feels like the definition of ‘marking your own homework.’

  2. We have investigated ourselves, and found nothing wrong. Carry on…

  3. It wasn’t unanimous and they based their reasoning on doku having made a clear attempt to play the ball. So if you slide tackle someone from behind as long as you’re making an attempt on the ball it’s ok now.

  4. I’d be okay with it if they didnt try to claim its due to a clear attempt to play the ball… what a fucking joke this league is turning into! Feel free to kick people in the cheat/head as long as you TRY to play the ball lmao

  5. Didn’t Mac Allister make the same tackle against Harry Maguire, and yet, won a free kick?

  6. Liverpool still crying focus on Klopps farewell flop

  7. Tbh, all these panels and review shows like mic’d up or whatever it’s called are pointless because such is the tribalism of fans that whether you think they’re right or not is entirely dependent on whether their view goes for or against your team. These are all close calls. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes against. It’s just the nature of the rules.

Dont think this should have been a penalty, and I can only imagine the shouts of ‘Cheats’ and ‘Corruption’ from Liverpool fans if City were awarded this penalty against them, in the 98th minute of a game tied 1 each in the middle of a title run in.

The common refrain after the fact was that it’s a free kick anywhere else on the pitch. But as others have pointed out, on Sunday, I saw Alexis Macallister fly kick Harry Maguire in the stomach and somehow get awarded the free kick, never mind carded.

  8. Absolutely 0 chance the panel were saying anything but this.

When they admitted they got it wrong in Spurs v Liverpool, Klopp cried for a replay. It impacted how refs approached their next games

  9. Nice payment from Saudi = no pens v Man City in the final minute of a potential title decider….

  10. A couple of trips to the middle east for some warm weather training for certain refs this week.

  11. Am I the only one who thinks that if Oliver had given it as a pen then they’d say the same thing? Feel like it was one that could go either way and they would side with whatever the on-field decision was.

Love how the headline on here is the Liverpool one but not the one about Havertz, so OP changed it.

  12. No comment from any Arsenal fan on Havertz dive? See a lot of Arsenal badges talking about the Mac incident and LFC double standards but very quiet on the Havertz incident

  13. I completely agree, said it at the time and got fried but it is what it is

  14. As a Premier League fan, what I’ve learnt is that as VAR makes more mistakes in the course of the season, the more media will try to subtly back their decisions.
Liverpool fans have been accused of having double standards, as have fans from other clubs. But these so-called double standards stem from the fact that VAR has been inconsistent and in some cases, costing points for teams. So, banters aside, i genuinely think that fans from all clubs should actually come together and find ways to pressure the PGMOL to pull up their socks regarding VAR standards or just get rid of VAR totally.

  15. Well of course they did. They “apologized” to liverpool how many times? Including against direct title rivals arsenal. Now they blow another call against the other direct title rivals city? That’s a possible 4 points lost because refs and var screwed up. They could have had 4 points more, title rivals 1 point less. They are not going to admit anymore screwups when it comes to Liverpool.
