Palestinian Prime Minister Shtayyeh submits resignation • FRANCE 24 English

First the Palestinian prime minister Muhammad sta has announced he’s handed in his resignation to the president the development this Monday comes as pressure mounts on Mahmud abas to shake up the Palestinian Authority this as the US and Regional players look to who could possibly govern the Gaza Strip

Once Israel’s offensive to a Hamas comes to an end for more on this story we can go across to ABC corespondent Jordana Miller standing by in Jerusalem Jordana why has he done this and why has he done this now well the Palestinian prime minister has tried to submit his resignation in the

Past uh and the president Mahmud abas has said no this time we do expect it will be different because of uh the mounting pressure from the United States for the PA to begin to implement reforms uh and change its leadership improve its governance and its accountability as the

US looks to give the Palestinian uh Authority a major role in the Gaza Strip after the war and that seems to be what is behind uh Sha’s resignation now uh we may see uh the Palestinian uh Authority put together now a technocratic government that is a government that is

Not necessarily connected to political parties but led by experts that could be some kind of transitional government uh over especially in the Gaza Strip uh as soon as maybe you know the next several months if the war ends that soon and they would serve as a transition before

Elections for example would be held in the Gaza Strip so this is a move that the United States is going to support uh and celebrate uh but there still are a lot of questions for example who will the Palestinian president put in this position uh to take over the United

States and the UK and other allies are looking for the Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas to step aside and now fill a more ceremonial role without as much direct power remember aboss is deeply unpopular he’s ailing uh you know he has been very ineffective over the last several years

And the United States uh and its allies are looking for new leadership so if a boss appoints someone who genuinely will be a new uh leader that will be uh very welcome but it could be that a boss will put someone in power who he will still

Be able to control and that will actually not be a sign of progress Jordana also happening today where you are we’ve had uh the Israeli Army who’s presented the war cabinet with a plan to evacuate civilians uh from Rua do we have any details at this

Stage we don’t really know know yet what the evacuation plan looks like for over a million gazin that are Sheltering uh by the the Egyptian Border in Rafa we also don’t know much about the idf’s military plans there um we may learn some more details over the next uh

Several days uh analysts expect that if Israel implements this plan to move civilians out it will take two or three weeks and they are likely now to go perhaps some will go to the Northwest along the coast near the Moi uh area that is already declared as a safer Zone

I can’t call it a safe Zone because there’s still combat there um but there that won’t be enough uh there’s not enough room there for all of those civilians so perhaps some it’s expected will go to the Northeast but further up uh pastunes to the east below the Aza River

Again we have to remember that natany is using the looming threat of a massive operation in Rafa as a pressure point and leverage on Kamas and its leadership to uh soften its positions and agree to some kind of ceasefire or hostage release deal so that may be also part of

This mounting pressure uh it’s not that Israel’s not serious about this operation but you know it is uh another step towards that operation to have actual uh military and evacuation plans on the table those will still be discussed in the days ahead the cabinet did not approve these plans yet

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said on Monday he was resigning to allow for the formation of a broad consensus among Palestinians about political arrangements following Israel’s war against the Islamist group Hamas in Gaza.

  1. You keep hearing America & the West wants this & that from the Palestinians who are living under oppression & occupation before their oppression will be allowed to end but when it comes to Israel who actually has a convicted terrorist in the cabinet & a criminal & indicted prime minister, they say it’s up to the Israeli people to decide.
The double standards is just shameful

  2. Netanyhu has been right all along: only military pressure can bring Palestinians to the negotiating table. Arabs only understand force. If you appease them, it's over.

  3. What can any sane observations of Gaza gets explained with the sense that US and it's allies has the best interests for the palestians.. I mean who is this lady..?

  4. He knows they have no intention of giving Palestine autonomy and self rule and he has had enough of all the hypocrisy and lies. The colonialism from the western nations is not going to let go of control in Palestine no matter what they or their corrupt journalists say.

  5. What I see, from outside both these camps, is Israel's and Palestine's current leadership only knows how to fight the other guy.
The way Israel talks about Palestine, the way Palestine talks about Israel, officially, can only create a fight.
I will admit that Palestine appears to antagonize things first, but that's what kids do and kids are what Palestine is made up of.
Sure, some are aged to be adults, but if they never grew up, they're only aged that way.
So, if the misbehaving kid being beaten doesn't stop the misbehaving, maybe the beating is not going to work next time either.

  6. There is nothing left of the Gaza Strip. The US is gaslighting the world with false hope of a Palestinian state In a few months the US and it’s allies will claim that they had no idea that Israel was doing a genocide

  7. Evacuation. Really to where? There’s no were left in Gaza. When Israel says that they mean to force the Palestinians people out of Gaza

  8. How come the usa empire zionist want tell pick how must rule the ppl that choice should be the ppl they want to choose goverment for the world but your empire is dying whitey

  9. I hope he is a good palestinian and move out of Israel to make room for the rightful israelis to take back gaza and west bank.

  10. "The next several months" LOL
The war will still be going on past Oct 7th 2024
France24 live in a liberal bubble of optimism
