‘A £100,000 salary doesn’t go as far as you might think’, says Chancellor Jeremy Hunt

Do you regret tweeting that it doesn’t sound right does it to say £100,000 is not a huge salary well I was talking to a constituent who is pointing out to me that um you know what sounds like a large salary when you have house prices averaging around £ 670,000 in my

Area if you’ve got a mortgage and you’ve got child care costs it doesn’t go as as far as you might think and and she’s right it doesn’t go as far as you might think and that’s why I want to give help to families um and you know that’s why

The child care measures are very important we weren’t able to afford to fund child care for people on the highest salaries but I was simply saying that’s something I’d love to be able to look at in the next Parliament but we can’t afford to do it now

Trevor Phillips asks the Chancellor if he ‘regrets saying £100,000 isn’t a huge salary’.

  1. Is he literally having a laugh…. People “not in his area” have the same costs the same price of food of council tax of every tax under the sun to even walk out the front door. And earn 4x less.

  2. We are finished as a ntation if the person in charge of our economy thinks like this. This is almost three times the average income and he dears to say such a thing. Get them outtt!

  3. He's not wrong. A 100k salary isn't that much if costs keep going up but that salary hasn't kept up with inflation. Do people naking less suffer even more than that? Of course they do, but they get sone measure of public funds to accoubt for their low wagd which really makes up for that difference.

  4. I used to be in the debate club. We were encouraged to argue for even the most ridiculous positions to test our debating skills. I would've made a fine politician, now that I think about it 🤔

  5. The gravy train is over in Britain, the world is too competitive and unstable spending won't fix anything it is just passing on the problem. As a nation we need to help each other.

  6. Maybe if house prices were lower we could all live comfortably, if only someone was in Government and could do something about it 😂

  7. This is the problem when mps dont have a clue what goes on in they own country.but they just want to increase their salaries when the country is starving.. and then they want us to vote for them .never even in my dreams i would never vote for con artists.
