‘Anything can happen’: New NATO member Sweden prepares for possible war with Russia

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sparking concern for their own defense among many Nordic countries, some are turning to the NATO military alliance for support, with Sweden and Finland becoming the latest countries to join. Meanwhile, Sweden is remilitarising Gotland, its island located in the heart of Baltic sea and some 300km from the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, and warning its citizens to be prepared for a possible war. Our reporters Julien Sauvaget and Clovis Casali travelled to Sweden to see how growing tensions with Russia are affecting both the army and the people.

  9. Hell Yea, Sweden! Stepping up! The Swedes being neutral was a waste for centuries. The world benefits from the strength of the Swedish people.

  10. Looking the other way will not protect you from war. Hopefully NATO will grow much bigger to increase stability in the world. Putin and China must understand that the days of stealing someone else's territory is over.

  13. Well we are not preparing for war but we are mustering our army in defence. We also spend 2.% gdp now and will go up too 3% gdp. But saying we are preparing for war is wrong we are just bolstering are defences and buffing up our army/navy/airforce.

  18. They'll need to. In the wake of the Moscow terrorist attack, Russian MoD reporting they are now getting 16,000 new volunteers a week , (up from about 7,500 a week the past year).

  26. They had no problem as long as it was neutral, now it is preparing for war, probably that is what it wanted. What they don't understand is that a NATO-Russia war is actually a USA-Russia war, it can only be a nuclear one, probably when the US and Russia will negotiate a ceasefire, the buffer countries (including Sweden) will no longer has been around for a long time

  41. Why would Russian attack NATO? I hope Putin isnt that crazy. Destruction of things is not good. Also, I hope France stops flooding soon.
