Chechnya bans music deemed too fast or too slow • FRANCE 24 English

The Russian republic of Chechnya has taken the rare step of banning music it deems either too fast or too slow. Officials there have outlawed songs that don’t conform to new rules which specify their beat per minute, which excludes most of Western pop. The move is meant as a way to preserve the region’s culture, as Monte Francis explains.

  1. Reading the comments, it always amazes me how eurocentric/phobic and 'stupid' the 'liberal' audience of mainstream Western media channels is.
Making a mockery of the Chechen govt while if this was France doing the same you would probably be cheering cause it was protecting 'French culture'. In fact, France has done this, they have implemented a limit on the time radio networks are allowed to air English language music (source: ''French radio goes to war with language quotas in fight for musical freedom'', 2015, France24)

But I bet you dont mind that, do you? You probably wholeheartedly support that.

And yes, dont forget the ridiculous abaya ban which just happened last year, which is a cultural clothing not religious, everybody was cheering it on and nobody was asking themselves if this was stupidity and childishness from the French govt… nope nope, it was France protecting France and it was good according to you guys 😂😂

But if others countries do it, it is suddenly bad/dictatorial/opressive/backwards/<any other buzzword you hear from Western politicians and media>

Nobody taking the Western criticism at face value anymore. Your bloc is in its 'losing influence' era, both political or cultural influence, but somehow you guys do not realise this. If I was you I would be behaving friendly with the rest of the world, lest they (read: ex-colonies) get a desire to take revenge for past grievances… so be careful 🙂

  2. We all know that banning things makes people not want them. Luckily, when you ban something, it becomes immediately lame and illegal markets dont pop up overnight. Btw 117 is stupidly slow if you’re gonna “max out” somewhere. If you averaged every radio cut from the last 70 years, the median is probably somewhere around 120. That’s why they did this…it was juuuust enough to make roughly half of western music “illegal” overnight 🙄

  3. >Be me
    >Imagine I'm in Chechnya
    >80-116 bpm music is only allowed
    >I just slow down or speed up the banned music

  4. This is the most stupidest thing I've heard in quite a while especially the part where they're going to force actual artists to change their actual writing that they've already done You can't tell someone how they shouldn't can and cannot write

  5. So what about the glorifying Rappers in the UK and USA ? It can't be more insane than that , look how much crime, deaths, suffering of young generations and your rap music done, look how many kids are deluded. Always pointing fingers at others , typical hypocrisy
