Schweinsteiger on why Manchester United haven’t been successful – “…The easiest example United should have learned out of is Liverpool. What did Klopp do? Did he sign a lot of huge money transfers? No. Look where he got Robertson. The same he did with other players. The same he did at Dortmund”

  1. He bought mané, Salah, Allison, Fabinho, keita all for >€40m. 5 players for more than €50m each.

Sure he’s done well, but it’s disingenuous to suggest he did it without spending. That’s just not possible in the prem.

Even Robertson cost Liverpool almost double what Dortmund paid for Lewandowski.

Man U could probably have done better at buying players from the premier league instead of overseas. They cost more, but they’re more reliable as they’re proven in the league. They’ve definitely made some costly errors with foreigners who very quickly realize they don’t like living in Manchester.

  2. Let’s be honest, the successes of Liverpool is attributed to Edwards and Klopp but imagine if they had signed Brandt and Gotze like Klopp suggested. They wouldn’t have won the UCL and the league. This is why every team needs a football directorate. United never had one till recently.

  3. Edit: to people downvote, that’s atypical of this subreddit, any information you can’t comprehend it’s right down put in negative karma. Get a fucking grip, seriously.

Utter BS. Anyone who follows United close knows our problems are much deeper than big money signings.

Useless CEO(former banker) giving Martial a 200k wage weekly and having no intel on actual football making every signing overpaid, a dressing room filled with divas using the press as their psychologist(Pogba,Lindgard, Bailly, Ronaldo etc), wife beaters removed from the squad with morons supporting them online, an owner taking yearly dividends without investing into the club, a outdated training facility, a press room starting rumours and contacting agents to push agendas like no other club and so on.

  4. The main reason has been because we simply haven’t moved with the times. We were far too reliant on Fergie and when he retired and the role of the manager in general changed we continued to stick with the old model of giving them far too much control over areas such as recruitment. Other clubs evolved and adapted to using much more expanded and encompassing footballing structures and we’ve been continuing to sign the likes of Fellaini and Antony because the manager trusted them.

  5. To be fair I could have told you Robbo would be a star a few years before Klopp did. Any scout worth their salt watching Scottish football could see he was unreal.

  6. Didn’t he used to really struggle English when was in Manchester? Like Christiano, Schweinsteiger’s English improved after leaving man utd, I bet Tevez speaks the queen’s English now.

  7. Gary Neville didn’t want to hear this but he knows it’s true.

  8. OK so what about Mainoo and Garnacho? Both are going to be world class, Mainoo was free and Garnacho cost about 100k.

  9. How many miles is Liverpool? Just look over there, buy all their players.

  10. Well, they did spend on Allison, van Dijk, but he is right overall, Klopp created a whole new club atmosphere with players identifying with the club. United got mercenaries. Similar story at HSV, they ain’t going back to the Bundesliga, the club is rotten from the core and that reflects in sporting performance.

  11. Dude was washed.

Moved to Chicago fire/MLS after man u and wasn’t even good over there

  12. True but look at Bayern, psg, and shitty. All bought big players, all have won their leagues consecutively. Real Madrid too.

  13. What bollox. Most expensive keeper, most expensive defender, 85 million on a striker…. Lfc pleading poverty again. That club was the first to start spunking big money when their Littlewooods owner bought the league.
