John Terry on Chelsea’s record-breaking 2004/05 season: “It was as good as the Invincibles season for Arsenal. They drew an awful lot of games. We only lost once away to Manchester City, Paulo Ferreira gave away a penalty early on in the game and we should have come back and won the game.”

  1. >The season was historic for the vast number of Premier League records set during the season. The list of achievements included; most away wins in a season (15), most clean sheets kept in a season (25), fewest goals conceded away in a season (9), most wins in a season (29) and fewest goals conceded in a season (15). As of 2023, Chelsea 2004-05 still hold the defensive records for most clean sheets and fewest goals conceded in a Premier League season.

The full quote from John Terry

    >**On Chelsea’s record-breaking 2004/05 season, conceding 15 goals and keeping 25 clean sheets…**

    >”I’m going to upset a couple of people here, but I think that season was as good as the Invincibles season for Arsenal. They drew an awful lot of games.

    >”We only lost once, away to Man City, Paulo Ferreira gave away a penalty early on in the game and we should have come back and won the game.

    >”When you look at the goals we conceded that year, we conceded against sides you wouldn’t expect if I’m honest and that’s no disrespect to them. Looking back today. That could have maybe been nine or 10 goals conceded.

    >”I don’t think it’s a record that’s ever going to be beaten if I’m honest. I certainly hope it’s not and I’m very proud of what we did defensively. That’s what we were paid to do, keep the ball out the net. It obviously helped with players around me like Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and Ricky Carvalho, so I’m very thankful for that

  2. I tend to agree with Terry here. Sure they lost but it’s irrelevant if they finished with more points than the “invincibles.”

Teams like Terrys Chelsea and man city’s 100 point season deserve to be talked about in the same light, despite having lost a game. If city and Arsenal invincible were the same year, city would have won the title with 4 weeks remaining despite arsenal never having lost.

  3. It’s the best defence we will probably ever see in the league, which is massively impressive.

Arsenal didn’t lose a game in the league, which is massively impressive.

Not everything has to be contest, both are incredible achievements.

  4. They got more points so of course it was a better season

  5. Surprised he was inducted after the racial abuse he threw at Anton Ferdinand

But the two achievements are the two achievements in Prem history least likely to be repeated.

0 defeats Vs 15 conceded… just outrageous really. Especially in back to back seasons. Vintage Barclays.

  6. Chelsea and Liverpool could’ve had an invincible season each if it wasn’t for City.

  7. The 3 best league seasons in Premier League history (so, since 1992) in chronological order.

    Arsenal’s 03/04 season – Undefeated.

    Chelsea’s 04/05 season – Just 15 goals conceded.

Man City 17/18 season – Only team to ever reach 100 points.

Every fan have their own opinion as to which of these 3 achievements is the best. But I think that if people are being honest they will agree that these 3 seasons are definitely the 3 biggest landmark seasons in the modern game.

Honourable mention should go to Leicester’s 15/16 season – Biggest gap between the previous season’s league finish to then win the league (13 places).

  8. How to bridge the gap to your teammates girlfriend ..🤣🤣..no pun intended ..

  9. But you didn’t come back and win the game, did you John? So that’s irrelevant. Was that the season you were screwing your friend and teammates’ wife? You got beat, they (Arsenal) didn’t. Buts, ands ifs or maybes aren’t actual real things they are viewpoints, not facts so pointless to compare. Silly John. A good season, yes, as good as going a whole season unbeaten? I disagree, and I’m neutral.

  10. One achievement can never be beaten, only equaled. The other can be beaten. That shows which achievement is better.
