Israel vows to ‘increase pressure’ on Hamas, US to sanction Israeli military unit over abuses
Jordana Miller ABC News correspondent in
Jerusalem uh Jordana good morning um can
you tell me more about Benjamin nanah
who’s vow to step up this offensive
against
habas well we’ve heard uh the Israeli
Prime Minister now for several weeks if
not really almost two months talk about
Israel’s imminent plans to go into Rafa
you know he argues that only by going
into Rafa and fighting Hamas last
standing battalions uh you know will
Israel be able to declare what he calls
full Victory it’s important to state
that Israel also believes the hostages
are somewhere in Rafa and the recent
Rescue of two Israeli hostages happened
right in the heart of densely packed
Rafa they were being hidden in a in a
building there um you know also Israel
feels it needs to go there because
there’s a lot of tunnels crossb tunnels
from Egypt into Gaza that Israel either
wants to destroy or control um along
What’s called the Philadelphia
Corridor that’s the uh area that goes up
along the Gaza Egyptian border uh this
has continually been uh consistently
been a very controversial operation uh
and now we hear the Prime Minister
saying that Israel will intensify its
military pressure on uh on Hamas uh and
that seems to be a reference to Rafa or
remember he pulled out all of Israel’s
combat soldiers from Southern Gaza on
the 6month anniversary of the war now
Israel has called up two
brigades which are allegedly training
for going back into Rafa and the first
part of this phase we have to underscore
will be the evacuation of more than a
million civilians from the area now
those evacuation plans are still being
discussed with the Biden
Administration uh Israel it appears
plans on building tent cities in central
Gaza equipped with food and electricity
and water to
house these refugees uh who Israel
essentially drove from the north to the
south in the beginning of the war uh
that evacuation will take weeks before
we see any kind of military operation on
Rafa and even the military part of this
operation is still being discussed with
the United States and of course it it
carries great risks for the civilians
that are there even after an evacuation
it’s certain that there will still be a
couple hundred thousand civilians left
in
Rafa and uh from Washington there are
reports that the Biden Administration
will impose sanctions on the Israeli
military’s nsak Yuda Battalion uh for
alleged human rights abuses in the West
Bank this would be an unprecedented move
against an Israeli military unit how has
this news been received in
Israel well is Israeli leaders from the
Israeli Prime Minister to the defense
minister to the head of the Israeli Army
and other generals are all essentially
outraged by the possible uh s sanctions
being levied against this unit uh netak
Yehuda is a unit that was originally set
up for Ultra Orthodox uh soldiers so
they could keep Jewish law it was there
were no women involved in these uh units
um and they allotted time for prayer PR
and study Etc it has become a unit that
is now dominated by Ultra nationalists
from the Jewish uh the Jewish National
parties the the ultra National parties
and religious parties not necessarily
the or the ultra Orthodox parties um and
in the past it has had several problems
with soldiers in that unit uh violating
not only Human Rights but IDF uh codes
and and rules of engagement uh as
recently as just two years ago the unit
made a grave mistakes that essentially
led to the death of a Palestinian
American uh uh an older man who was in
his 70s uh this unit uh stopped him
handcuffed him blindfolded him um and
left him in the dead of winter outside
for hours and hours and he was later the
autopsy showed he probably from the
stress um but he had a heart attack and
died uh and several soldiers from this
unit were let go uh and the unit was
actually moved out of the West Bank um
so this is a problematic unit um but
Israel’s uh all of Israeli leaders
except maybe the the leader of the labor
party are defending this unit and
calling it uh a dangerous precedent and
last night we saw a flurry of calls
between Secretary of State Anthony
blinkin to Israel’s uh defense minister
and one of the war cabinet uh generals
General Benny Gans um and perhaps the
Israeli leaders will be able to make
some changes and and and you know
prevent this step from from occurring um
you can understand from the Israeli
point of view that its best ally its
most important Ally sanctioning part of
its Army um would be problematic this is
you know the Israeli Army already has
you know so many other issues and it is
widely demonized in in this region um so
this would this would be a step that
would only encourage uh Israel’s enemies
as well it appears that Israeli leaders
are going to try to find another
solution where they can uh you know
discipline or better enforce uh you know
the adherence to international law by
this unit and prevent it from being
actually sanctioned by the us thank you
very much for that Jordana Miller from
Jerusalem
thanks
Israel has vowed to expand its ground offensive against the Hamas militant group to Rafah, the southern Gazan city on the border with Egypt, despite international calls for restraint. “Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu argues that, only by going into Rafah and fighting Hamas’s last standing battalions, will Israel be able to declare what he calls full victory,” ABC News correspondent Jordana Miller in Jerusalem told FRANCE 24.

This is not a legitimate military unit; it's gang and a PR stunt.
The fact is Israel knew of the signs… before oct. 7 . They failed to act on it … which is why we’re here … netannahyu would rather sacrifice a few to righter his cause …. Sick
Israel just hates Allah
They can’t pressure Hamas, Hamas doesn’t care how many Palestinians get killed. And neither to the Israelis. The only way this ends is with a negotiated cease fire. Netanyahu wants all the hostages dead so they can just massacre everyone in Gaza, Netanyahu wants to resettle Gaza with Israeli settlements, he is open about it.
If Israel invades rafah the Arab world will go berserk on Israel.
There's a word for this called hypocrisy hypocrite, complicity complicit
She really said, “You can understand from Israel’s point of view…” They are accused of war crimes. Sanctions are what happens when war crimes are committed. She says that sanctions will embolden Israel’s critics in the region. Maybe the IDF shouldn’t be committing war crimes if they don’t want to be criticized or lose their allies.
They are running away from two State Solution…and targeting hammad Also keep targeting The UN for giving it's right to Palestinians
Hypocrites total hypocrisy is what am seeing in the West.
Don't fall for the theater its an election year.
