Referees are humans and they have feelings. Referees also have a very, very hard job.
However, referees should not be free from criticism though. If I was consistently making mistakes at my job that then a very large effect on future outcomes of others peoples jobs, then that’s a serious problem.
>He’s one of our top referees and one of the top referees in the world.”
The fact that this was said about Mark Oliver by the head of the PGMOL is a problem. If he’s genuinely one of the top referees, then the standard is not high enough.
Even with the VAR system in place to help them, the reluctance of referees to overturn or even go to the monitor over decisions that should clearly be looked at at the time is astonishing. Releasing apology after apology after all these mistakes isn’t good enough.
Cry me a river. There are seven people officiating the game, they have the ability to pause the game, look at replays, talk to the back room staff, communicate with each other to make a decision, they have all the necessary tools to make professional and accurate decisions. The refereeing these past few years have been underwhelming. If seven people can’t make an accurate and just decision then there needs to be reorganisation or they all need to go back to basic training.
Get fucked, Howard!
Why we ever named an astronomical telescope after this guy, I’ll never know!
🤡
Pretty obvious they’re just manufacturing a relegation battle because the three promoted sides are too dogshit to compete themselves. Specially Luton. Imagine having two teams with points deductions and you still can’t stay up
Called it.

“They’ll find a way to justify it. PMGOL would rather move heaven and earth to support their refs than address the real issues with standards.
They’d much rather put out statements saying refs made the right calls than do their jobs and complete investigations, issue punishments and apologies, and reform the corrupt, lazy, inconsistent standards we’ve been seeing since VAR was introduced.”
Of course Fergie’s toyboy thinks there’s nothing wrong with refereeing standards. Surprised he hasn’t had more to say about United’s apparent victimisation.
Of course he does. Let’s all not forget that he was a witness to Xabi Alonso getting a boot to the chest in the WC Final and he casually pulled out a yellow to show to De Jong.
This man didn’t give a red for an on field assault that took place in front of millions of people. If De Jong had done that in public, he would have been arrested in pretty much every country.
Well, he’s not a decent enough guy to actually hold his hands up and admit himself, and his cronies are inept or biased. He’s busy stealing a living, and he’s not about to let the truth stop his wealthy income, is he? Only an honourable person would do that, and his own refereeing career already proved he isn’t an honest moral person.
He wouldn’t have to if they were any good
Why would he say anything else? It’s not like they are going to do anything about them.
VAR should check his response
The problem is no accountability. They are simply not improving and being held to a high standard. It’s jobs for the boys
He can try and defend them all he wants but it is like arguing a dog is a cat.
I mean, the only other option he has is to hold his hands up and go “Do you know what, my bad. I’ve got just about everything wrong. Next year will be better, though, trust me!”
Wow. That’s all I’m going to say
He’s a corrupt fuckung idiot
Having watched and heard the VAR audio of our third penalty claim at Everton, I don’t know how he can.
Attwell is gaslighting everyone; his mind is made up before he even replays the incident and he makes up a complete fairy story about what is happening to justify a decision he’s made before watching it. Calls the clearest penalty you will ever see “a tussle”.
It’s shameful and indefensible. Our club were right to point out the Luton thing because that official had absolutely no intention of taking any action that might lead to a Forest penalty, no matter what the screen showed. The video is clear on that.
Taylor says “played the ball played the ball, played the ball” and at no point does Attwell bother telling him that Ashley Young did not, in fact, play the ball.
I’d love to hear him properly defend the refs goin to games in the UAE.
I’m sure it’s all on the level
Here’s a simple way to see if the refereeing standards are fair and above board: let’s keep up with what the betting odds are before and after refereeing assignments are announced. If we track match odds on w/l/d permutations before and after weekly assignments are unveiled, that will show which refs are known to influence match results because gambling companies aren’t in business to lose money based on a ref’s “reinterpretation” of rules
Of course he has. That’s all they do.
Gasp
We have to hope he’s addressing the reason why the refs are suddenly chickening out of decisions. The on-field refs don’t want to make so-called big decisions. They never really have, but now they have VAR’s skirts to hide behind. And VAR will almost never want to be the bad guy, so… It all creates an officiating regime where nobody at all is making even straightforward decisions — and coaches and players are understanding that. The margin of getting away with pushes and pulls and grabs in the box has expanded hugely.
