It seems outside of Bayern many people recognize that Tuchel is a world class tactician, yet many of us fans act like he is a terrible manager due to not liking him as a person or him not starting the players we want. After this season, he was right in recognizing that Kimmich was not ideal for the double pivot, that Davies was not offering high quality football, that the team had a squad depth problem, and that Kim and Upamecano, despite being stronger and faster CBs than Dier or De Ligt, are too prone to making mistakes precisely due to their physical intensity. The man risked his job in going with his observations, which in the end were correct and are working in favor of the team in these last big matches, to the point even in the German team Goretzka is no longer a starter and Kimmich now plays RB after over half a decade of being untouchable in the midfield.
I think in this UCL run Tuchel has proved he was good enough for the job, taking the team to the semi-finals in the midst of an injury and squad depth crisis that has lasted the whole season, and having lost 4 defenders before the season even began. It’s a shame that we are (yet again) wasting another UCL winning coach, who specializes in modern football tactics, due to impulsivity and lack of patience. Next coach won’t be better than Tuchel, Nagelsmann or Flick, and after these guys, the list of elite managers who want to join Bayern will continue to grow thinner and thinner.
10 years ago Xabi would have taken the job, or at least Nagelsmann would have returned. Guys like Zidane would be in line for the job. Instead we got Rangnick, De Zerbi, and Emery all of whom are not really desperate for the job and probably have more stability in their current clubs
Today, it seems Bayern’s structure does not allow managers to establish or follow a clear football identity (thus, no elite managers want to join), there are no long term projects, and coaches last maximum two seasons regardless of the results. Even Heynckes or Flick were not able to escape this pattern, and it only took 3 games to kick out Nagelsmann. The only bad manager we’ve had recently is Kovac and his hiring was also partially due to the fact no elite coaches wanted to join Bayern at the time.
This obsession with results in the short term will condition the club’s tactical approach, squad selection and player development in the long term, the team’s evolution will stagnate in exchange for wanting to get results immediately. Bayern will struggle to keep and attract young talented players. Bayern will not become Chelsea or United, they will always dominate the Bundesliga, but maybe the club will slowly fall behind other elite European giants, after being a club that played 4 UCL finals and won a sextuple and a quintuple(?) in 10 years.
this is a very low level analysis of the game
also wtf does Tuchel “saved” Bayern mean? if anything Kim saved Real
I’m confident in the return leg, Tuchel has very good record in the CL, he knows his shit. Home game advantage is not that important on this level as people make it out to be, City drew vardrid at home as well, without KDB and out of form Haaland. We can win.
Back when Pep announced hed leave i was saddened, of course, to lose this genius football mind. But i said back then that Tuchel would be the ideal candidate to continue with the foundation Pep had laid. I thought that Pep left Bayern in such good shape, that it was a real opportunity to become an absolute powerhouse.
Then they went for Ancelotti, whose hire i hated. Kovac, who i hated even more and some other bums.
So i might be biased cause i do have a high opinion of Tuchel. But that being said imo hes simply the fall guy for this season. Hes said time and time again what the holes of this roster are and hes been proven right. The FO made bad decisions and was too cheap, maybe even too arrogant, and now they pin it on Tuchel. Paired with the personal attacks against him this week, its vintage Uli Hoeneß as we know and hate him…. just crazy that within not even 10 years the club went from one of the premier destinations when Pep left to a circus that has to hope Ralf Rangnick doesnt chose Austria over FCB lol.
