No, this video doesn’t show Robert De Niro confronting pro-Palestine protesters • FRANCE 24

back for our daily fact checking segment and with via bahal VIA a warm welcome back to the studio today she’s looking into the Surge and misinformation coming out of that Pro Palestinian protest well the all of those Pro Palestinian protests across American universities verica one viral misreport involves a certain Oscar winning actor what do you have to tell us yes Shan with the police Crackdown on these campus protests across the United States tensions are mounting and with it so is a wave of misinformation and outof context videos that are going viral so if we turn ourselves to a video getting a huge amount of clicks as we can see uh there this this video uh claims that Oscar winning actor Robert dairo confronted a bunch of pro Palestinian uh protesters and defended Israel so let’s take a listen uh to the video in question this is not aov is not a this is real [Music] now off your support that’s bar I keep talking nonsense then you got to go [Music] home going to do it again again we don’t want that you don’t want that none of us want come on let’s all get serious now this video racked up hundreds and thousands of views across social media but it is not in context that is not a video of Robert dairo uh defending Israel to a bunch of pro Palestinian demonstr demonstrators uh this is a video from the rehearsal of his filming of the new series zero day uh which is his upcoming political thriller on Netflix photos from the shoot can be found on the official images uh database gy images and in in every single frame from that uh image database it is made very clear that he is seen on the set uh of his upcoming um series now interestingly in that uh video that we saw there there was one part of it subtitled uh in Brackets with October 7th very much referring uh implying that he’s referring to the October 7th Hamas Massacre but in no part of the video does he say that and in no part of any description uh of these uh photos online is there made any reference to any demonstration happening in the background uh whatsoever now interestingly also if we uh just for good measure do a side by-side comparison of a frame from our viral video and our official gy images uh clip there we can see the same co-stars that he has in the background uh so this absolutely was taken uh on the same day and this video was in fact posted by uh a few uh Israeli media Outlets but they were quick to issue uh a retraction as well on that story there sh I was going to say I did recognize some of those other co-stars there well speaking of things being taken out of context verica a video of Mike Johnson at Columbia University it shows him making claims that aren’t quite true yes that’s right house Speaker Mike Johnson visited Columbia University in New York last week amidst the protest movement H and on his visit he criticized the University’s handling of these demonstrations and he demanded that the University president uh minu shafik resign now after his visit he said in a CNN interview that he was very much standing up for Jewish students that were uh that were terrified uh due to the protest and he slammed uh what he what he called Colombia’s hybrid uh learning idea of online classes for jurist students and he called it discrimination against them so let’s take a listen to what he said in that interview there in fact the administration recognized the threat was so great they canceled classes now they’ve come out with this hybrid idea well if you’re Jewish maybe you do want to stay at home maybe it’d be better off for you but it’s so discriminatory it’s so wrong in every way this is not uh correct information these hybrid classes uh these virtual classes that he’s referring to are not only for Jewish students in fact they were put in place by Colombia for all students uh at the height of the protest the uh the Colombia’s president Min shafik made a statement online making it very clear that to deescalate and to give uh a chance to consider the next steps that all classes will be held virtually and it’s been confirmed that this will carry on for the rest uh of the semester so this is very much for all students uh as as all those who can uh and just on top of that the uh Provost office from the uh Columbia University has also made it clear that the administration did not uh issue any directive or Specific Instructions to Juris students about taking classes remotely so the speaker Mike Johnson there is misrepresenting this idea in his uh interview Jean oh always interesting and always got to be careful about what people say it doesn’t matter how high up you are you have to dissect the facts via once again thanks so much for that truth or fake segment that’s veral with truth or fake

As the police crack down on US campus protests, tensions are mounting, and so is a surge of misinformation. An out of context video heavily circulated, claiming to show actor Robert De Niro aggressively confronting protesters whilst defending Israel. Another video with false information is Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s interview, where he slams Columbia University’s “hybrid learning” for Jewish students, which is not what the university proposed.
