How close is China to becoming a dominant space power? | DW News
China has launched an unprecedented mission to retrieve samples from The Far Side of the Moon the spacecraft called the changa 6 lifted off from the southern island province of hyan it’s expected to bring the samples back to Earth within 2 months it’s the latest advance in China’s ambitious space exploration efforts now competing with the United States China already landed a Rover on the far side in 2019 the first country to do so here’s more on the Chinese moon mission ch6 aims to collect lunar material from The Far Side of the Moon and bring it back to Earth it’s a complex mission that will involve several robotic modules working together the 8 meter long spacecraft will first orbit the Moon and then deploy a Lander to the side that is never visible from Earth it will Target the South Pole 8kin Basin the largest known impact crater in the solar system using a mechanical drill and scoop the Lander will collect 2 kilos of soil and [Music] rocks an Ascender module attached to the Lander Will Blast back into lunar orbit and transfer the samples to the re-entry vehicle vehicle if all goes well it will carry the cargo safely back to [Music] earth scientists hope the sample will reveal new information about the moon’s early Evolution its Far Side is geologically different from the one we see from Earth it has a thicker crust and its surface Rock has different chemical composition Chung earth6 also has instruments made in Europe on board a spectrometer from Sweden will investigate the interaction between solar winds and the lunar surface when solar winds sweep across the moon they create an electric charge that can endanger astronauts and Equipment the effect is most pronounced on the crater edges in the polar regions This research trip will pave the way for China’s first crude moon landing which it hopes to achieve by [Music] 20130 both the US and China want to establish bases at the moons South Pole some incredible images there for more on China’s ambitious Space Program mudu joins us from DW’s Chinese Service uh can you tell us what China is hoping to achieve with this mission to The Far Side of the Moon well scientists already knew that The Far Side of the Moon looks very different to the near side of the moon so this time the CH Earth six Mission shall collect dusts and rock sample from The Far Side and transport them back to the Earth for further analysis and Chinese as well as International scientists choose the ion Basin near Luna South Pole area which has had a lot of asterids impacts and volcano eruptions over past billions of years they could reveal the early history of moon maybe also of the earth and our whole solar system okay now we have seen India we’ve seen the US and Japan launch missions to the Moon in recent years now we’ve got this major milestone for China can you give us a sense of how important SP space exploration is to the Chinese leadership well as you said everyone including United States India Japan they are all trying to get to the moon and of course China as an emerging superpower doesn’t want to be left behind so China has planned this mission to collect uh dust and rock sample from Far Side of Moon and in the next years there will be also more complicated missions including to build a permanent permanent robotic station in South Pole area of moon um also that we mentioned in the report that we saw before we watched before China also aims at sending astronauts to the Moon around the year of 2030 which would not only be scientifically important but also be a political Prestige because of course Chinese leadership want to show some national proudness okay so a definite political aspect here in in back in 2019 uh China pulled off a historic first soft landing on The Far Side of the Moon with changa 4 but that was only a one-way Journey wasn’t it and this is clearly far more ambitious yes um as you mentioned in the year of 2019 China has already sent Chan Earth four mission to the far side and it’s moonra is still working there today and this time chel 6 Mission and which just launched today 1 hour ago is the first mission of mankind which collects rock sample from The Far Side of Moon it is complicated because you cannot communicate directly between Earth and Moon far side which means several relay satellites are necessary and of course the rock samples must be carried back to the Earth again and that means complicated orbit rev above m from DW’s Chinese service thank you so much for those insights there thank you
China has launched an unprecedented mission to retrieve samples from the far side of the moon. The spacecraft Chang’e-6 blasted off from the southern island province of Hainan. It’s expected to bring the samples back to Earth within two months. It’s the latest advance in China’s ambitious space exploration efforts now competing with the United States. China already landed a ROVER on the far side in 2019, making it the first country to do so. We spoke to Mu Cui from DW’s China Service.

national proud is related to politic aspect? hard to criticise China without politics DW?
Not to be critical of Chinese, but rather about this sci fi loving tones in German media, the world launch market total worth is 5 billion dollars annually, while Hollywood's worth is 10 billion dollars annually, so space tech still doesnt make too much economic sense. Maybe sometimes in the future it will be a viable economic market on large scale, but it currently a very nieche thing to do. Just before you start to burn billions of euros for the "strategic" space market.
Space has belonged to China since ancient times. The only reason space does not appear in ancient Chinese maps is because these maps were drawn from a reactionary Han supremacist perspective that sought to exclude the contribution of Space, Xinjiang, Tibet, Mongolia, Northeast China, the South China Sea, and Taiwan to the Chinese Nation.
China got space technology by stealing, deception and bribe from other countries. The US government should forbid Elon Musk from selling western techs to China.
China versus India in space achievements.
Rovers on Mars: China: Yes India: No
WORKING Rovers on the Moon: China: Yes India: No
Humans in space: China: Yes India: No
Space station in space: China: Yes India: No
Lunar samples: China: Yes India: No
ISS membership China: What? India: No and nothing.
7nm Chips mass production China: Yes India: Potato chips
Methane rocket in space orbit: China: Yes, first country to do it India: No.
Bien prononcé chEr😂 well done
India dominated space and the universe millions of years ago with their Vimana.
Surprised to see it say Long march in English on the side.
That said, amazing looking mission, wish them luck.
Yes political. Not practical. Leaders chasing fairies.
China has banned YouTube in their country but hosts an army of bots for flooding comment section of videos with praises of China.
China is the new super power
When it costs $100,000 for an American to become an engineer, of course China is going to pull ahead.
why can't germany do this kind of stuff???! Germany is the biggest economy in europe. i'm like why can't they do stuff like moon mission. because of the third reich?? which the UN banned germany from anything military related??
It recalls me the age old joke:
-Mr President, we have bad news, our astronauts reporting that the Soviets already reached the Moon, and painted it Red. What should they do?
– Pick up some white paint and write "Coca Cola" over it.
China now claims the entire Moon in their new 157 dash map saying that the Xia Dynasty claimed it in 2050 B.C.

world news: lndian rocket crashed into the pacific ocean
lndian news: lndians found water on Mars!
How successful will China be in space? Of course, it all depends on how successful they are at stealing Western tech.
oh, no, another over-capacity of space launching success!
such success will rob the west its prestige and so needs to be encouraged!
How close is China to becoming a dominant space power? What a question because China is already a dominant space power ! What other countries ever came even close to China in terms of milestone accomplishments in the past few decades ?… Unless you believe in the Apollo landings more than half a century ago..🤒🤢🤮🤧🥵
Pretty it is all china BS…they filmed this in the studio
Don't worry. Hollywood will make sure Americans land on the moon before the Chinese
China go for the dark side of the moon, US go for the backside.
Where’s the American flag? Shouldn’t it have a higher priority than the sand and the stones?
Although China launched the rocket, they don’t have democracy they lose. Germany is a puppet of the us so full of democracy. Conclusion: German win
Wishing China success with this mission. There is plenty of room in space. Competition is good.
Is this a Netflix show?
They have their own international space station.
A Chinese mission to the moon is the equivalent of their previous ‘missions’ to Africa – Resource identification & eventual extraction – Period
Ccp paid your people's salaries 😮😮😮😮😮
Chinese communist party properganda
Ccp paid your people's salaries 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can't president Biden sign a presidential order ans ban Chinese from flying into outer space?
Me,wn? So more CGI then before landing on dark side with no Witnesses again.
China was banned from ISS so they made their own space station.
