Israel army enters Rafah and takes control of border • FRANCE 24 English

now Israel ramping up pressure on Hamas ahead of crucial talks in Egypt today in the last few hours Israel’s military saying it’s taken control of the Palestinian side of the Rafa Crossing at the moment it is now closed that after it carried out new air strikes as well on Rafa overnight it comes after late yesterday afternoon Hamas agreed to the latest ceasefire proposal but Israel said the deal still does not meet its core demands and it’s still planning to push ahead with an assault on raer despite the hopes then of a deal for now that violence continuing well France 24 Shirley sitbon is joining me here on set Shirley first of all just give us a bit of an idea about the different positions can you between the two sides in these talks yes there are almost two different deals because the Egyptians say they started working on the deal accepted by the Israelis made some some mild modifications and then gave this to Hamas and Hamas accepted but the Israelis are saying now the deals are very different what’s the difference well for example uh in the first phase uh 33 Israeli hostages are supposed to be released and the Israeli uh deal well the deal is Israel accepted uh they would be alive living hostages but in the deal Hamas accepted uh they could be dead or alive just 33 Israeli hostages that’s what on that’s what’s on the paper uh another difference is the pace of their release for example well uh the Israelis said we accept uh three hostages every 3 days which means this will last the first phase of this process will last 33 days uh and it will continue after that Hamas says no not three every 3 days but three per week which makes it longer uh and also among those differences while the Israelis say they’re not pulling their troops out at the end of this process the deal Hamas got the US and Qatar said they guarantee the war will be over at the end of the process so yes the Israelis want to work on this uh a bit more and of course the Hamas agreement came at a strategic time as Israel was launching its uh offensive it’s offensive uh so yes that’s basically uh the differences some of the main differences pointed out pointed out to the Israelis today which make all the major headlines to explain to the Israelis why the government blocked this I mean it sounds as you say the negotiations are still coming down to a very fine wire and there’s still a lot to negotiate and in the meantime Israel seems to be sort of continuing the least the potential beginnings of some kind of assult on raer with air strikes overnight and also taking over The raer Crossing exactly the Israelis say this is a limited operation a limited ground offensive in the Eastern South just one division getting in so showing some footage of this our correspondent on the ground says well this is not uh limited I’m in the west he said and uh we’re being bombed we’re bombarded and very massively so it it’s pretty widespread but the Israeli is hoping uh to show that there’s some some kind of restraint maybe just uh while talks continue while they send a delegation to to Caira to continue talking about about this but this is a terrible bet because you know they could push Hamas to the other side they can you know there obviously could be many casualties uh in the Gaza Strip which everybody fears and actually yes uh hopes in Gaza were crushed and people are devastated when they saw that they thought there would be a deal when Hamas said yes and then they realized that the operation had begun the Israelis saying this is not the offensive we talked about this is just a limited one shy thanks very much for shy sit bomb there

  1. Netanyahu does not want. ..never wanted a deal. He wants war and murder. Hamas even wanted assurance from US that there will be a permanent cease fire after the steps agreed to.

  2. let's be honest: The hostages are not at all what this is really about. They are just a convenient argument.

  3. The genocide owners US, UK and Germany have given Netanyahu green light to invade rafah and commit the worst atrocities. They are the ones supplying the weapons. Tomorrow they will lecture others on human rights what blatant hypocrisy

  4. The talks are not crucial, they are a joke and your headline is a lie. Israel never proposed the deal Hamas supposedly accepted. They proposed the deal Hamas rejected with a murderous attack on the Rafah Crossing, killing 4 and injuring 10 IDF members. Your narrative supports the Hamas false narrative and is therefore garbage!

  5. Poor Famas just wanted few more days to ံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံံlive. 😂

  6. Why has no one asked Hammas proof of life for the hostages???? That would make things a lot clearer as to how many hostages are still alive.

  7. Hostages are people. Captured terrified human beings belonging to someone. Not just bundles of dead or alive bargaining chips. Thank you for your coverage.

  8. People in the comments enrage me,Hamas agreed to a deal they invented that wasn't on table with Israel(where it is written that 33 Hostages end this war),they stalled this for 5 MONTHS and had de facto ceasefire while killing almost all the remaining hostages(this is why Hamas now insisted even for the 33 to be returned alive or dead because they have no 33 alive hostages to give anymore),Israelis saw how month over month,Israel back off from EVERY key point(from every day of peace for return of hostage to now every couple/week,from not returning thousands for every one now they want almost 8000 TERRORISTS now for 33 hostages, retreat from The Netsarim and buffer and more and more concessions, every KEY point that was crucial to Israel,Americans force us to retreat while Hamas didn't move inch)all EXECPT ending this with Hamas in power, and what do you know what did Hamas agreed to?yea Destroy Hamas if they can get deal then yes,we not ending the war without Hamas out and controlling Gaza, not going to happen…

  9. All bs…ceasefire talks nothing more than smoke screen for Israeli to complete their agenda and western government and media is enabling them.

  10. Hamas accepted the terms of a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement. Netanyahu chose to invade Rafah, raise the Israeli flag, and forcibly evacuate displaced civilians. This is provocative and disgusting! This is an insulting and provocative act for all parties involved in the negotiations!! Israeli officials claim that entering Rafah serves the two main goals of the war: the release of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas. If their priority is the #hostages, then the deal is on the table and the families are waiting for Israel to accept!! Demands of displaced people who have no work or savings, whose homes were destroyed by American missiles, to evacuate for the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth time. Where to? An unprepared place without food, water, medicine, medical services or health facilities!! What kind of occupiers are you, a mixture of criminality, arrogance and ugly miserliness? Misinformation and media bias is ridiculous
