King Charles’ Artist Admits Not Everyone Will Like the New Portrait

you never know how long these things are going to take um they tend to have a bit of a life of their own when he became king halfway through that in a way it made it more interesting I mean I was able to sort of see the shift in the body language and sometimes you sort of talk about these things metaphorically but actually be able to visibly see someone you know gain stature and become more comfortable in themselves is a really interesting thing you use these and the bit of the recollection of being with them and what you want is to recreate the sense of being with someone which is a moving person obviously and of like you three-dimensional one uh and try and show a few diff you elements of their personality um you know sometimes contradictory ones he’ll pretend to laugh at your jokes and you know kind of he’s funny and curious and interested and so um he’s you know he’s good at putting people at their at their ease all of us have our you know biography edged into our faces there more of the weight of the world on his shoulders um once he become king but he hadn’t lost a sense of humor or his curiosity about what different things he always asking questions and interested in everything I didn’t sense there was anything wrong particularly I think um and also I think when You’ got cancer it’s actually while you’re going it’s it’s often towards the end of the treatment that it actually is takes more physical toll um I mean there’s always people who who who who disagree with you on how to paint these things people agree with how I’ve done it but I think it’s it’s a bit different from the other World Portrait I’ve seen the color was part of that and just playing with this idea of mysticism and you know the way we like you know we still buy into the idea of the royal family being a bit different from us in some way [Music]

The King has unveiled the first completed official portrait of himself since the coronation.

The portrait, by British artist Jonathan Yeo, was commissioned in 2020 to celebrate the then Prince of Wales’s 50 years as a member of The Drapers’ Company in 2022.

Discussing the controversial bold colours used across the canvas, Yeo conceded that “there will always be people who disagree with you, people that don’t agree with how you’ve done it.”

  1. Props to that man for pulling off this legendary scam on the royals. Gotta give props to someone that can produce garbage and convince people otherwise.

  2. I did not associate this colour palette with blood at all! Actually look at the colours: pinks, oranges, tan, peach, as well as red. Overall I see this as vibrant, energy driven and passionate. The colours come forward but the face is thoughtful, which draws the viewer to the face. Yes, a total risk, but it's grown on me certainly. The execution is lovely. I also thought that this vibrant colour palette reflects the colour of beautiful flowers like roses, poppies, tropical flowers – perhaps hinted at by the butterfly. Not a portrait likely to be forgotten that's for sure. I think in person, among all the other more traditional portraits it would definitely draw your attention to it. I'd love to see it.

  4. Did Charles ask for this? There is nothing positive or uplifting about the portrait. I'm sure the artist is very talented but this picture is awful. Looks demonic

  5. Eeek upon it's reveal I'm afraid no one in my household was a fan! The artist has painted him to look way older than he is and the red background would be appropriate for a World War I or WW2 Veteran to resemble poppies. He appears to have Olive skin in the portrait and I wouldn't necessarily say it even fully resembles him to be honest!

  6. Author and human rights activist David Icke has always held that the so called royals not only are a crime family but also said that they are cannibals .If this is true than what a great portrait
