Russia’s New Tactic is Vovchansk is…Bizarre

is Russia resorting to a desperate new tactic to take vens and is it paying any dividends at all for them I’m Paul US Army Combat veteran let’s talk about it okay so this I thought was really interesting is this is reporting from isw right that note that per our per my last video uh in the past 24 hours the pace of Russian offensive activity in harke has slowed considerably this is coming not just from Ukrainian uh military directorate uh but also from Ukrainian commanders themselves who have said that the Russians have slowed their offensive Pace but what’s more interesting is the fact they’ve also pivoted their tactics now we talked earlier on this channel about how the Russian assault in harke is very light on Armor and very heavy on light infantry with drone support but it seems like even the large comparatively platoon-sized groupings are still not really working out great for uh Russia and so they’ve started relying on even smaller assault groups no more than five people that’s a fire team in the United States military uh don’t at me I know um but a because different M os’s and different unit structures have different things that constitute a fire team but five people is like a fire team size element and the these tiny groups will try to penetrate positions then join up with one another to form a larger strike group uh and again Drone footage supposedly from ven shows Russian uh light mobile infantry operating within the settlement in small what they say are Squad sized assault groups consistent with these reports uh now these smaller groups however they point out maybe contributing to higher Russian losses and it’s true the Ukrainian military who always kind of goes high on the numbers is reported that about almost 1,500 Russians have been Kia in the last 24 hours and that would explain it right because think about it you’re a five-person element what sized enemy force can you encounter and beat basically you can be a lone soldier that’s it but if you encounter even three soldiers in a prepared position there’s no chance this five person Russian strike Russian fire team is going to be able to take them um combine that with Ukrainian drones who are always overhead removing the element of surprise one of the only things that small units can rely on uh and you have a recipe for disaster or for very high attrition rates and of course the problem is you can only sustain High attrition rates for as long as you have forces and Russia while it can certainly stomach a a lot of losses it can’t ramp up the rate the burn rate of its troops like it seems to have been um now one Russian Mill blogger who actually had been an instructor in storm Z units said that these small Russian assault groups might actually be indicative of just poor training and preparation and is not really an effective new tactic it’s more so it sounds like he’s talking about more the fact that these small groups aren’t trained to operate as squads right you need the way the US military trains its units and I think this is pretty emblematic of most organized militaries is you learn individual Soldier skills first right how to be a lone soldier so using your weapon using a radio doing self- Aid or immediate a medical care then you learn how to fight as a fire team you learn about formations you learn how to have a sector of fire you learn how to use hand and arm signals to communicate with one another then you train as a squad you learn how to do bounding OverWatch you learn how to do a um patrol base operations you learn how to pull security and shifts and how to maneuver and how to conduct a flanking attack then you train as a company in which you engage in multiple lines of effort and you have even larger OverWatch positions you learn how to employ different combined arms fires but the idea is that you need if you wanted to work your way all the way up and in the US Military we work our way all the way up to the Brigade combat Team level right so something like 3 to 4,000 troops executing very complex combat tasks right but it takes time in the US military it takes us about a year to go from Individual Soldier skills all the way up to Brigade Readiness and that’s starting with troops who have completed their basic training so if you’re Russia you might sit there and say listen we just got this guy out of prison if you have 14 to 20 days of training you’re not going to be able to train them to do to operate with anything other than fire teams they may not literally be organized into units larger than a fire team so that could be what he’s talking about here it’s a little speculative um but it would absolutely track uh with some of the things we’ve seen uh about kind of the way that some of these units appear to take fire and they don’t they just sort of start to run in ways that don’t look like they’ve been trained to to do anything under Fire uh just total panic so but that doesn’t mean a GH quantity has a quality all its own and when we look at the last 24 hours of combat operations we see something interesting first off you can see that there’s been no real movement in Hoka or lansi uh but when you look over here near vens you can see that Russian forces have purportedly expanded their area of control to include half of this Airfield here and some buildings in Northern vens and so while Ukrainian lines have actually remained relatively stable right uh except for here in this uh border region which it seems like again this is low value terrain I really suspect the ukrainians are just withdrawing from it because it’s not worth holding and instead relying on what looks like the vula river uh or creek I guess uh the vulture River and Creek as as a better kind of defensive line but Ukrainian forces haven’t really lost that much control of V chanks but the area that’s marked as Russian controlled is much greater you also see a pretty big Russian thrust here near um borata again likely uh you’re likely seeing a reflection of kind of what was a contested Zone as a Russian controlled Zone as Ukrainian forces likely pull back across the denet um so this this Mass tactic is producing some effects right uh but is it a is this a large scale stunning breakthrough that’s going to cause tremendous issues for uh is are they are they threatening harke with this type of movement no this is Russia doing exactly what we talked about which is once they get into an a developed urban area they have they are very effective at just simply swarming into building after building right it’s very hard to it’s easy for Ukraine with it with its standoff its drones its artillery its technology to hit a unit that passes through a large open ground much harder for them to detect and hit soldiers as they pass from one building to another right zipping across a roadway for example uh but you can see here that this update really doesn’t it brings the Deep state map into line what we saw 24 hours ago in the UA map which you see has a smaller tested Zone uh but a much but reflects a uh much more um a much more like strongly delineated line of control right this was it’s been over 24 hours that live UA has reported that this roadway demarcates the boundary between Ukrainian and Russian control of vens uh now we are going to talk about Ukraine’s strategy to thwart this issue uh in do about this and this is what I thought was really interesting they are asking the US they say listen we really want the green light to hit Targets in Russia with your weapons your high Mar system because they say we the Ukraine says we watched Russia prepare this arke offensive we watched them Mass their troops prepare to fire on us and we couldn’t break it up normally this is how this is classically how the Russian forces are unable to launch major offensives is because Ukraine constantly spots them and breaks them up when you have this kind of deep front line and Russia sort of realized that this was a problem this is why pro they chose to open this hke front because they believed if they can’t win with Superior Tactics then they can win by exploiting um Western policy makers uh constraints and don’t get me wrong this is only going to work for a couple of kilometers but they were able to sit there and exploit West the Western policy that says that they can’t use Western weapons in Russian Sovereign territory to basically prepare a large attack right across the border and then push across it we talked about this before all this is is confirming the analysis that I did several days ago um and again what I think the us could do and did do in for example in Afghanistan right they had a policy that said listen within a certain range of the Pakistan border the U US forces are authorized to to attack they’re authorized to at least have weapons land inside that you know US troops can’t enter Pakistan but their fear the US military’s fear was exactly a situation like this right where the Taliban would sit 10 meters inside of Pakistan and make themselves basically invulnerable to Us weapons as they shot and engaged US troops um right that that sort of constraint is just something that the US does not operate under and to be clear US troops anywhere in the world the US has said you always have the right of self-defense always always always um it’s never couched you never need a US Soldier never needs permission to engage an enemy that’s engaged them first but the the fact that countries can exploit these administrative boundaries is itself a problem and the US military again can easily or the Biden Administration could easily sit there and go hey you’re right Russia is clearly exploiting this policy we are authorizing you temporarily right to uh you can engage targets within 12 kilomet of the Russian border right or anything inside of Bel garod and as long as they’re as long as they’re military targets you can’t Target civilian infrastructure right something like that that they say listen here’s the tools you need Russia is clearly exploiting this system H what we saw as a important deescalation Russia is turning into something to exploit um and the US can create conditions to exploit it right back this is not escalatory uh this is simply meeting an escalation that Russia has chosen by opening up a whole other front in the war so I exactly what it said sawn military sitting one or two kilometers from the border inside Russia and there was nothing we could do about it there there isn’t nothing but with only Soviet weapons of which the the ukrainians have little um there wasn’t really much they could do so that is all I had guys of course be sure to like the video Hit subscribe um if you want some of the
