Russian defence minister and long-time Putin ally Sergei Shoigu to be replaced

it was only a few days ago that Sergey shyu was still front and center playing a leading role in Russia’s Victory Day Celebrations on red square but after more than a decade as defense minister this close Putin Ally is suddenly not as close as he was neither is Nikolai patev a former spy who’s been the kremlin’s powerful security Chief since 2008 both sacked in a surprise reshuffle that’s left Kem Watchers open Jord it’s probably unprecedented um if you look at that those people that have been moved um shyu and patev two of the four top people in the country and the government running the war at the same time without any real prior warning it coincides with Russia opening a new front in its war with Ukraine two and a half years in Moscow has the upper hand on the battlefield this move is more to do with what’s happening back at base Andre B usov will be shu’s replacement an economist without any military background a strange Choice perhaps but one that underlines Putin’s main concern right now how much longer can Russia afford his War the Kremlin wants to get defense spending in check at the start of a fifth presidential term he clearly feels embold golden a dramatic shakeup he hopes will make him stronger Iva Bennett Sky News Moscow

Russia’s defence minister is set to be replaced, more than two years into the war in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed replacing his long-time ally Sergei Shoigu with civilian and former deputy prime minister Andrei Belousov, who specialises in economics.

Mr Shoigu, who has served as defence minister since 2012, will take up a role as head of the national security council and have responsibilities for the military-industrial complex, the Kremlin said.

  1. Western media massively over covering a topic of the changing the Minister of Defense and putting forward absurd theories.

Reshuffling Ministers after a New Government is normal. He wanted to retire for a long time, same as Lavrov.

His achievements have been A++ (as evidenced in the last two years).

Whilst on the Kharkov front Russians are simply walking in.

    is Ukraine still winning?

  2. Yes, an economist to oversee that the special military operation is executed at a fraction of the time and cost compared to Shoigu's strategy.

  3. Why do we get analysis from serial BSer Chris Steele?

He passed on actual Russian disinformation to slander and frame President Trump.
He should be in jail if the legal system was fair.

  4. Russian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov will remain in his current post, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"As far as the military component [of the Russian Defense Ministry’s work] is concerned, the appointment [of Andrey Belousov to the post of the Russian Defense Minister] will have no effect on the current system of coordinates. The military component has always been a prerogative of the Chief of General Staff, and he will continue his duties. In this sense, no changes are expected at this point," the Kremlin spokesman said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin nominated Andrey Belousov to replace Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu. Peskov explained that "it is very important to integrate the economy of the military sector into the country’s economy to reflect the present-day dynamics.".

  5. If the West wants to solve the Ukraine conflict on the battlefield, "so be it," Sergey Lavrov, candidate for the post of Russia’s foreign minister, told a Federation Council committee meeting discussing his reappointment.

"If they want [to resolve the conflict in Ukraine] on the battlefield, let it be on the battlefield," Lavrov said.

He reiterated that Russia was ready to negotiate peace not only in words, but also in deeds. "[During talks] in Istanbul, we indeed <…> were a step away from signing an initial document to end the special military operation on conditions that Ukrainian sponsors now admit were very beneficial to Ukraine," Lavrov continued. "Our political analysts also say so. And I agree with this," he added.

According to Lavrov, the Istanbul negotiations were Russia's last attempt "to extend trust and show good will, despite multiple past deceits on the part of the West." "And we were misled again, so they forced us to go fight," he concluded.

  6. indeed he has been promoted and now does some special super secret projects … beeing a very experianced and indispensable asset to the russian federation … all that bullshit about he is sacked … is crap.

  7. The Ukrainian commander responsible for the northeastern Kharkiv frontline has been replaced after Russia launched a surprise offensive, a military spokesperson said on Monday.

Nazar Voloshyn told RBC-Ukraine media that the decision to appoint Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapatyi to the position was taken on May 11. He gave no reason for the decision.

It comes amid reports that Ukrainian defences were “built in the wrong place” to halt Russia’s Kharkiv offensive.

  8. People saying it's just a reshuffle don't understand #DictatorProblems

The reason the incompetent Shoigu was head of the military (and why his "promotion" is a demotion) is that Putin trusted him to not allow a military coup. That is every dictator's greatest fear and greatest weakness: that the guys who actually have the guns will want to remove the dictator.

  9. Extremely fake news from sky who told us Russia was running out of missiles and Russian soldiers were reduced to fighting with shovels

  10. I have an intense dislike for all "reporters" of all mainstream media"news" purveyors. All of the words spoken in this piece about Russia is all opinion, nothing more than that. Disgraceful.

  11. It's great to see the number of comments by people who realise this media outlet continually lies.

  12. Russia has well-educated patriotic people to rule the country, which is not the case for Western countries ruled by clowns.

  13. Utter bollox, anyone who cares to read the Russian press and independent press will know that Shoigu asked to retire about 12 months ago and Putin asked him to stay a bit longer, this is a mark of respect from Putin to Shoigu that takes him off the front line but keeps his experience in the main security council.

  14. Very misleading. Firstly, whenever there is a new Presidential election, Russia re-assigns the top officials. Some return to same positions and others not. Shoigu who is 68 years old wasn't sacked. He's been assigned to Secretary of Russia's Security Council. Shame on these so called news channels for withholding the true story. 🙄

  15. When the Defence Minister is sacked in the Middle of a Dreadful war, its not ' RESHUFFLING'! Shoigu was soft, lazy, a 'chineese asset'

  16. Thanks Mr. Putin to oust Shoigu – the war starting by Shoigu advises Putin. The war will end with economist guy advises Putin for no longer to burn money.

  17. Report on how countries all around the globe are leaving the dollar behind and siding with Russia and China except Uk and Europe that keep getting more and more desperate
