  1. Sarr leaving leaves us with not a single player from that bizarre summer 2020 transfer window (Sane was preagreed). Choupo did well but otherwise Sarr and Roca didn’t leave much of a mark. I remember it seemed like a very hipster transfer window and it turned out to be one.

  2. One thing’s for sure, we’ve done Kompany no favors with how public our coaching search was. People’s perception would already be different if there wasn’t so much publicity around Alonso, Nagelsmann and Rangnick. Especially Rangnick was the height of embarassment because Hainer talked big and then two days later we were rejected. And then BILD found like 4 more people who rejected us behind the scenes.

You just know some absolute prat is going to go into Vince’s first press conference just to ask him if he feels bad about being Bayern’s 10th choice solution.

  3. Kompany is going to do great here. And 9 months from now people will have forgotten about this coaching search fiasco entirely. This is a no-lose situation for Kompany or Bayern.

Clicking through old threads from him being hired will be fun next season.

  4. Honestly I still feel a bit skeptic about Kompany (very young, lack of high level experience, potential lack of flexibility) but at least I could see it potentially work well, which is already more than I can say about some other candidates. And with how difficult our club and board makes it to our coaches a risk is always there. Even if it wouldn’t end up with the highest success right away he might lay a solid foundation for us again.

One thing I want to note though because people keep posting the 101 points in his Championship season, that sounded very impressive to me and probably others at first, but you have to add that the Championship consists of 24 teams and they play 46 games in a season. Still a good score of course but also not an otherworldly point average.

  5. Theres no way rummenigge approves this..dont let us down don.

  6. I truly wanna see what Flick is capable of in Barcelona. Without much budget, a ruthless press, incompetent board, and with an interesting squad but far from being top tier.

  7. I just feel bad for Xavi. Guy was really stressed out into resigning. Got convinced to stay just to get sacked. That’s not how you treat your club legend.

  8. >Borussia Mönchengladbach have followed Paul Wanner’s development at Elversberg closely. Gladbach are one of several clubs interested in a loan move for the 18-year old [@kicker]

  9. Kompany is clearly a makeshift solution for one year. I don’t think that Bayern is doing itself any favours with this decision. In worst case they postpone the needed rebuilding of the squad because they are waiting for Klopp or Alonso.

  10. I think people worry about Kompany too much. Worry about our players. If you give Kompany some players needed for his football and he handles team morale okay, I don’t see him screwing up that much. Flexible or not, he can make a team with dominant talent play dominant. I don’t think he’ll win us the CL, but I don’t see any large risk of dropping to 4th or below with him.

  11. Flick to Barca seems like a move that’s destined to fail. Flick himself isn’t exactly a proven top manager, he doesn’t speak the language, the public perception of him is terrible since the documentary and pretty much everything around Barca seems toxic as fuck.

  12. It’s worth viewing Kompany as a potential long-term manager, just as Eberl said he wants.

If Kompany is viewed as a one-year option I think it’s the *worst* of both worlds. Bayern will have to re-sign up to 3 star players (Sané, Kimmich, Davies) and will likely spend a net amount of 100m euros at least (+ contract commitments). The manager better seem like a long-term option for recruitment and ‘project-building’ purposes.

If Kompany succeeds like Xabi it is incredible — no problems there.

But what if he succeeds to a moderate extent but struggles tactically or in KO games, like Kovač’s first season, will Bayern still chase after Pep, Xabi, and/or Seb Hoeneß?

What if he fails to a moderate extent, like Tuchel this year, will Bayern still chase after those managers or will they give him a reprieve?

If Kompany struggles and Bayern find themselves afraid of falling out of a CL spot, what happens then… have they just thrown away a season of Harry Kane’s prime (and Müller and Neuer’s final seasons)?

  13. >Bayern have extended their partnership with Paulaner until 2031

We have our priorities set haha

  14. It will be pretty exciting times, that’s for sure. With Kompany probably all outcomes are possible.

  15. > Vincent Kompany and Bayern are expecting to complete the move today [@sachatavolieri]

boys we finally found our man

  16. >Bayern board feels that Vincent Kompany has huge potential to become a top coach, trusting his vision and ideas. The coach left a positive impression during the initial calls made on Monday – Bayern now want to get it sealed shortly [@FabrizioRomano]

Does this mean it’s been approved by the SB?

  17. > FC Bayern are on the verge of signing Vincent Kompany as their new coach! In addition to Kompany’s commitment to the Bayern bosses, the deal was also approved by the supervisory board on Wednesday.

    > The final hurdle: an agreement with Burnley FC. Negotiations with the relegated Premier League side will be intensified today. Kompany is eager for the opportunity and has convinced those responsible around Max Eberl in the talks.

    > @SkySportDE @SkySportNews

    Kerry

    supervisory board approved

  18. Why did we not go with Gasp again? Watching his Atalanta reminded me of the good times.

  19. What do you guys think will be the length of Kompany’s contract?

    Full commitment for 3 years?

Standard 2 years with an option to extend by 1?

Shorter 1-year with an option to extend by 1 or 2 if things go well?

Absolute mad lad 5 5-year contract like with Nagelsmann?

  20. > With a contract running until 2028, Burnley are expected to demand a ‘high’ compensation fee for Vincent Kompany. Bayern were willing to pay up to €18m to Crystal Palace for Oliver Glasner – which didn’t go unnoticed at Burnley. Nevertheless, the English club won’t stand in Kompany’s way to leave [@BILD]

    pls no

  21. Offtopic, but i go into bread baking recently. Hastle at first with all that wet dough clinging to your hands and baking bricks that are hard to digest, but super rewarding once you get it right 👍

  22. They’re betting Harry Kane’s prime on Vincent Kompany.

I really hope they have a strong plan to replenish the squad and push out some stale players. Offer the new manager a new leadership group who will work hard and not drop tools as easily as this squad did in the recent years.

If it’ll be the same squad and a hope&dream that Kompany will ‘fix’ them (eg teach 29 year old Goretzka to improve his technique and teach 29 year old Kimmich to scan faster and not dwell on the ball) it feels like a mistake compounded over itself.

  23. I been on the kompany wave for two years he’s an elite coach and it’s good to see Bayern don’t really give a shit about “experience” or not being able to play pragmatic football with a championship squad to avoid relegation. He’s amazing tactically and i have zero faults with him other than his signings in the 2023 summer market, didn’t sign an outlet until Jan (fofana loan), but generally his signings have been amazing and so is his player development, notably Ian Maatsen. I just hope Bayern give him a balanced squad including an actual #6 (holding midfielder not a laimer kimmich type)

  24. > It was a ‘yes’ after 5 minutes on Monday 👌🏻

By Fab, Im on the Kompany train now

  25. Pletti is reporting Barca and Flick have a verbal agreement btw. So much movement on the coaching market.

  26. What I like about Kompany is his willingness to join us. He has to trust himself because it’s a huge challenge and we need a coach who wanna bet on himself under the given circumstances. When he had a technically good squad his team played really well in the championship and with the right additions this summer he can build a squad that can win the Bundesliga. As Uli sad it in the past the most important competition is the Bundesliga. In cups the margin of error is so small, but in a championship you have 34 games to be the best.

  27. Man, I’m really conflicted about Kompany. On the one hand, he got relegated this season (I know, I know, shit squad and all that), on the other hand, there are a few young and upcoming coaches (Alonso, Hoeneß, Motta, etc.) that have disrupted football quite a bit lately. Maybe Kompany has the potential to be one of them.

I’m really looking forward to see how this all plays out

  28. > Bayern are offering €10m for Vincent Kompany. Burnley want €20m [@cfbayern, @altobelli13]

    daylight robbery

  29. This Kompany signing has Freund written all over itself imo. A manager of a relegated team with a lot of potential? Yeah that’s a Salzburg type of move. Let’s see if it actually works out.

  30. I rather have an experimental coach than tucheliban or some boring shit like rangnick

  31. Apparently Rene Maric and Vincent Kompany got their pro coaching license together. I know he was signed for the Campus, but maybe Maric would be interested in being an assistant?

  32. Inexperienced no-name coaches who made a move that was too big for them at the time:

    * Pep Guardiola (Barca B -> Barca)
    * Xabi Alonso (Sociedad B relegation -> Leverkusen)
    * Mikel Arteta (NA -> Arsenal)
    * Zidane (Real Madrid B -> Real Madrid)
    * Klopp (Mainz relegation -> Dortmund)

These guys have to start somewhere. We don’t need some world-class tactician. We’ve had those and it didn’t work. We need a strong man manager who plays attractive football.

  33. one thing that will probably never be mentioned in case we get kompany and flick goes to barca

kompany has more club head coaching experience than hansi

flick is a less experienced head coach going abroad to a club with a strong local identity, he does not speak spanish/catalan except what he has learned in the last few months or so

hansi in barcelona is a bigger gamble than kompany in munich

  34. >Vincent Kompany and members of his staff are currently in Munich to meet personally today with the Supervisory board – waiting for an agreement with Burnley. Kompany cleared out his office and said goodbye to Burnley yesterday. The English club is demanding €20m [@sachatavolieri]

So the plane from Farnborough may have brought him and his team, it landed 20 min ago.

  35. I hope we dont pay anything above €10M. They sure will let him go for 10.
