I think this is a very uncertain pick, especially on a 5-year deal. In the face of that uncertainty, speculation fueled by bias will inevitably fill in the gaps.
So, I’d love to hear from fellow Chelsea fans, explaining why this is a great acquisition.
I’d also love to hear from rival fans and clubs that dislike Chelsea explain their opinions on this (i.e. why it’s a terrible idea/ doomed to fail etc.)
And last, any Leicester fans sharing their thoughts would be really insightful to read.
Then I suppose my conclusion will be a combination of these arguments.
Kompany and Burnley 2.0
Unless you are a fan of one of the mega Clubs, football is so fucking brutal mate.
All I can say is good luck. His refusal to change from pep-ball in the second half of the season nearly fucked us. It’s mad how close we got to throwing away a 17 point gap to second place.
At least Chelsea have a few good individuals that might be able to pull it off in the prem.
Leicester would be losing 10-0 next year with him and those tactics.
Weird appointment, had quite clearly the best squad in the champ this season and looked horrendous in spells, serious tactical holes and according to a few lei fans I know he’s not willing to tweak anything, he has his way of playing and that’s it.
“Here we go” – I saw this sentiment before lol
this guy enzo’s father?
So many tactical battles of the baldies next season
Very weird considering de zerbi is on the market. I get the whole pep factor behind his experience. But Chelsea taking a massive risk especially with a 5 year contract on a relative novice with zero insight to his coaching abilities and personality with relatively limited coaching experience. Fairs to the management if he does a stellar job but surely heads will have to roll if this appointment goes wrong.
Guess when it comes to the “bigger” clashes, it’s only Artera who’ll have be to careful and keep his hair on.
I’m going to make an incredibly bold prediction here and say I don’t think he’ll make it to the end of his five year contract.
Daring, I know, but that’s Chelsea for you.
More seriously, this guy was City’s reserve team manager and won PL2 with them, did not do well at Parma, went back to City and then took Leicester back up the season after they went down.
I don’t want to downplay winning the Championship, even if he did have the best squad by far, I’m sure he knows how to coach a team well enough but Chelsea have just appointed a manager with no top flight experience.
This is one of those situations where people will say it’s a terrible move, and in a year’s time they’ll be pretending they saw it coming all along. I’d love to take the piss out of Boehly, but unfortunately, I think this will prove to be an incredibly smart move. This guy is tactically streets ahead of Pochettino – by the end of the season, Chelsea fans will be singing his name.
Am I the only one who says “here we go” as super Mario in his head?
Weird one, he struggled to get Leicester promoted with the strongest squad in championship history.
