Keir Starmer says it is ‘not true’ that Diane Abbott is barred from standing as a Labour candidate. Speaking to broadcasters, the Labour leader said: ‘No decision has been taken to bar Diane Abbott.

The process that we were going through ended with the restoration of the whip the other day, so she’s a member of the parliamentary Labour party and no decision has been taken barring her.’ The Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP was suspended in April 2023 for comments she made about racism. Earlier she said she was ‘very dismayed’ by reports that she would not be allowed to stand for election.

  18. This is the final straw, just cannot lead his Labour party. They are arrogant. I voted Green ❎❎❎in local elections in Norwich and they got in. Brits you do have to vote for the Labour party.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, one of the few Labour MPs willing to stand up and be counted in his support of the Palestinian people has just been suspended by Starmer's Labour Party and will now not be allowed to stand for re-election in his constituency. Maybe there are other left-leaning Labour MPs scheduled for the same treatment before the election registration deadline passes.

    Corbyn is barred. But Abbott has the whip & can stand. The toryfication of Labour.

  34. Call me mad, but I can see all this commotion giving her the momentum to become Prime Minister when Labour win the GE and ousting Starmer, that is how bizarre reality has become on this plant in the last few years in my opinion.
