Why Man City’s legal challenge to Premier League is a serious threat to future of English football

  5. If the PL is acting lawfully, they’ll win the case and there’s no problem. If they’re not acting lawfully, they deserve to be stopped. Seems pretty straightforward.

    All this paper talk about how disastrous it will be suggests the media think the PL has been breaking the law, but should be allowed to, which is odd.

  6. If City are found guilty in any of these seasons, surely that opens the club up to damages from any club that was relegated in those seasons. This is a massive can of worms and their success will probably change the game forever.

    It’s also hilariously cynical that how City have done all of this. Expect them to recruit heavily this summer and just target the Champions League because that’s probably the only trophy they’ll be able to win next season.

  7. The chasm between the haves and the have nots is already massive. City wants it to become a league where there are 3-4 teams at the top and the rest are affectively league 2 teams. It will kill all competition at the top of the league. It could also end the pyramid when there is no longer any money flowing from the top.

  10. Just put them into administration requiring change of ownership. Worked for Chelsea. Anything less allows this clown contest to continue. The Prem need to harden up here. The absolute ‘tyranny’ of winning 6 of the last 7 seasons yet they have the gaul to act like petulant children make City look like utter fools.

  12. I’d rather just send them to League Two than put into administration. It’d be fun to see. Basically every non-academy bred player would leave and then have to earn your way back up.

  17. If it were a serious threat that means the premier league discriminated against them by implementing spending limitation rules in 2012-13 season.

    Its either not a serious threat, or man city were actually discriminated against. it cant be both.

  19. Would I be right in saying that if City win this discrimination case, then pretty much any team could break the financial rules going forward and claim discrimination if the league tried to punish them?
