    I don’t know, I vaguely recall the GOP saying something *very* similar about the attempt to codify Roe.

  2. With the slippage among young voters, perhaps Democrats should spell it out like this:

    *Do you like sex? Democrats want you to have informed, consensual and safe sex. Republicans want to turn it into Russian roulette. Disease? Pregnancy (which we’ll force you to carry to term, even if that kills you)? Who knows how it will turn out?! Oh wait, your state will, because President Trump is going to greenlight them tracking your period to ensure you don’t try to illegally access abortion care!*

    In a perfect world, every unwanted pregnancy would be prevented by contraception and every pregnancy would be wanted.

  7. i got my iud swapped out last month. it was supposed to still be good for another year and a half, but i just don’t trust the assholes ruling texas, much less at the federal level, to not force me to have a period.

  8. Good – the purpose of this was to get the republicans *on the record* on this. Now we have that. They weren’t going to take this seriously in the first place.

    Now we have it on paper what they believe, in case they even *think* about lying.

  9. Yes, their plan is project 2025 and they plan to ban birth control. They have told us and it’s in writing.  Right now they are going to pretend they would never do that with shocked faces that you would suggest such a thing while the heritage foundation gives them talking points like, ” well we don’t need to enshrine it because it’s not illegal!”.

    They want to tell us want we can and cannot read, they want to control/ monitor want we see on the internet, they want to control a woman’s bodies.

    If woman aren’t allowed contraceptions then men should no longer be allowed that little blue pill.

  20. So when they said “we just want to be reasonable about abortion,” and we (progressives) said they won’t stop at abortion, some people didn’t believe us.

    So now, when they say “we just don’t want trans women to use the women’s bathroom” and we say “they won’t stop at trans people,” will those people have learned anything?

  27. It is possible that there is a conservative plot to boost birth rates (especially among whites) to ameliorate the effects of shutting down immigration if they consolidate enough power. To some of them this is an existential fight, but currently can’t come right out and say so.

But do these cretins understand that hormonal birth control is used as first line treatment during perimenopause to regulate hormones and prevent a host of health issues—both mental and physical? They just hate women.

  32. Well, to be honest, it’s *not* a “federal” *Right*. It’s not mentioned in our patch-work Constitution, at all. However, the “Right” to **privacy** (which must necessarily include any and all medical procedures) IS specified in the Constitution.

    Instead, it’s a basic *HUMAN* Right. The simple fact is that our Constitution wasn’t intended to be the final word(s) in human rights; the Founders intended it as a starting point. (Okay, that was a lie; had the “Founders” had their way, only White (Anglo-Saxon) property owners could vote.

    But at least even they recognized that things could change in the future, and allowed for amendments.

To some extent, this is is just the Democrats playing a game the Republicans have been doing for years: put the opposition in a position where no matter how they vote, it will piss off some of their base. On the other hand, there are plenty of Republicans that would go after contraception if they thought it would fly.
