So as the full quote goes, Laporta basically said that when Xavi announced he was going to stay, he was “enthusiastic” about the squad and next season. So when that quote from Xavi came out, he was essentially changing his mind and saying they couldn’t compete against Real Madrid, essentially Xavi was saying he was losing faith in the squad. He also said Xavi started asking Deco for players (probably Bernardo Silva and others that would cost a lot of money). Xavi just didn’t really sound like he believed in the players he had. That’s why Flick is here. Flick wants to work with the players we have and get the best of them. The only signing he wants is a DM. That’s it. But other that, Flick wants to work the players and use La Masia at its full disposal.

If the goals are realistic like 1) do well in Europe, QF at least. 2) compete in LL get at least second spot. 3) win a secondary trophy like Copa or supercopa. 4) develop this young squad to the point where they will be able to get back to becoming one of the strongest squads in Europe. Then yeah sure, Xavi would have faith in his squad and the project.
